The RLSR is air-braked from a compressor in a wagon located in the train, all resident engines* are only piped with a control valve. Victoria will be piped similarly so and will be able to take passenger trains on her own. The vacuum equipment will not require use or modification. Hope this helps, Dom *Diesel No.5 "Rudyard Lady" has her own compressor and reservoir, belt-driven off the engine, and is the only exception. |

Just to conclude the story on Mull I thought the comments of David Clarke the driver on the final train last Thursday were worth repeating: "The last train left Torosay both valves going hard." "The sun didn't shine that day For the last ever steam train To Torosay." A very sad end to a great little railway |

Very sad indeed Mike, but hopefully it will be remembered for being great. |

I'm sure i've seen an online article showing a sketch of the possible route for the Loch Lomond line, but so far all I can find is this... http://oldsteamers.com/mull-west-highland-railway-moves-to-balloch/ Google throws up several short articles, mostly saying the same thing (see: http://tinyurl.com/7xkz9e8 for link to Google results), but does anyone have the link to the other article I specifically mentioned? Cheers, Dom |

There was a map which showed the orginal proposal. But I dont know where it was. However I understand the likley route around the shopping centre has changed so that the railway would end up on the North end of the main car park rather than the overflow. Thgis would be a better location and even allow for heading North up the Loch side in the future. If anyone has a bob or two to invest in a railway this project could do with it and there is a good chance of getting a return which is more than can be said for most railways. |
