Then I think that the current leader board (based on total train weight and trains that had passengers on board to avoid artificial results) is:

7,25 Moors Valley
10.25 Rudyard
12.25 Fairbourne
15 Romney

Stands back and waits for demands for a stewards enuiry

Can't really speak for any of the other gauges but the Surrey Border & Camberley must rank very high in the 10.25 gauge. It certainly seems to have run the first Santa trains to see Santa in Cove Woods and some of those and the trains run for the circus etc. must have been pretty long. As far as the RH&DR goes I will have to look out my records and report back!
Merry Christmas to all

A standard 12 car rake on the Moors carries 70-80 people. I'm sure I heard of some longer trains being hauled on several occasions!
Longest 15" gauge will have to be the Romney trial of the diesels with 22 coaches on.....
Craig

Back when I was a Romney Driver I was driver of the lead engine (of 3 engines) of a 40 coach train, which went non-stop from New Romney to Hythe via Dungeness.

We pulled a six coach train with 15 to a coach on 5 and a further 12 on the guard carriage on Hallowe'en. We pulled it with Jerry Lee, a 10hp single cylinder bobo which was only driving on two of the axles fitted with 6" diameter wheels. Didn't think it would even move the train so had the big diesel behind ready to push start it! However we left the big diesel behind pulling at a reasonable speed. Just cos it's little doesn't mean it won't do the job. Admittedly there is a gradient out, although only about 2 inches over 100ft but it helps to start rolling but we do climb 3 inches over 38ft on the double bend at the passing loop.
Anyone who has seen our carriages will know that it takes 6 people to lift one properly and that is without bogies fitted so a fair bit of weight. Still doubt that that is a record but we were impressed at the time. Don't think the safety officer would have been if he had seen it. A train running in the dark with nearly 90 drunk teenagers on the back! Still, good times eh!
