Hi there, I have this idea swirling round my head for a smallish sit in loco, a bit like the big Maxitrack Hunslet, the one where you sit sidesaddle at the back, thing is I saw a while ago a build thread and the guy used a lot of Caberboard, resin coated construction ply for the chassis and deck, hot rolled steel is hard to find here, and the cold rolled is rubbish so has anyone got any idea where I might have seen it? Any idea's greatly appreciated. All the best from Bulgaria, Richard. Edited by twainmanbg, 24 May 2012, 12:54 PM.

Richard, Your description makes me think of this http://www.sevenandaquarter.org/gallery/photo/?action=view&g_id=809 but, as there is no other info on the 7 1/4" Association site that's as far as I can offer help. (Do give me a call when you can as I'd like to hear more on your ideas). If anyone knows more on the loco pictured on the above link I'd be interested to hear. cheers, Edited by Chris Stockdale, 24 May 2012, 06:16 PM.

Hi There is a contributor on these pages from Russia, I think called Chudotxt, who has built a superb contractors type railway with limited materials and funds, perhaps someone can help remind me where his posts are ???? Cheers, and good luck, Ivan. |

Hi there, no it is not that one, although if it comes complete with the young lady I will take it. The one I saw I think was in Finland or somewhere like that, it used a caberboard chassis, the exact thing I want to build is like the loco built by Peter Beevers, and it would be a difficult choice as his Lister Loco is also very handsome and has a full roof, much needed down here,(I am 4 hrs drive from Istanbul 40-43c is not unusual in summer here). On a different matter what would be the power source best suited to a loco of this type, I am thinking Eaton hydraulic/or alternator electric, both driven by either a petrol or diesel engine? Maybe at the end of the day I should just contact Peter Beevers and concentrate on building the wagons. all the best to everyone and thanks for the input, Richard. |

There is an excellent article on use of alternators, I have recently done an Eaton 7 which is very good. Martyn http://www.smex.net.au/Reference/AlternatorTraction01.php |

Hi there Martyn, In a sense you are the one responsible for my wanting to seriously get a line running, since the first day I saw your video of "Victoria" I have been in love with her, she changed all my ideas on how big you could go on 7 1/4 gauge, shame she isn't in Halifax colours though LOL.Many thanks for that article, it has given me a lot to think about, and may well have pointed me in the right direction, thanks for that. all the best, Richard. |

Richard, My personal preference would be to go for an Eaton number 7. Very simple to build round and get to work. Couple that to one of the Chinese engines on sale on ebay - I can recommend a make of 4hp diesel if required - and you have a great little loco. If you want to know any more, just get in touch Regards Peter |
