Today (3 Nov. 13) is the last day of the 2013 daily timetable. A "Spooky Express" will be running.

A blue service will be running on Saturday & Sunday the 9th / 10th & 16th / 17th November - two return trains per day from Aylsham to Wroxham and back.

From the 23rd November until Christmas Eve there will be "Bookable Only" Santa trains mainly on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. In addition, there will be a few "Charter" Santas on weekdays.

After Christmas trains will be running from Friday the 27th December until Monday the 5th of January 2014, inclusive.

The next trains after that will be the daily service over February half Term.

See BVR Web Site for more information.

Best wishes,

All of this year's "Santa Specials" were sold out by the begining of December.

The 2014 Timetable is now available here.

The timetable is basically the same as last year (2013), except there will only be a one loco. in steam service (3 round trips) on Mondays in June and the beginning of July, and a similar service for the first three Fridays and Saturdays in July (i.e. a Green Service). In 2013, these services had 2 locos. in steam (Red Service.) The change is due to a reduced demand for the services in 2013.

There will be no Gala events in 2014, but in 2015 the BVR will be 25 and a number of special events are planned.

Best wishes and a Happy Christmas to everybody.

Volunteers' Open Weekend 8th & 9th March 2014.

This coming weekend the Bure Valley Railway is holding a Volunteers' Open Weekend so that potential volunteers can visit the railway and see how they can get involved. Without volunteers the railway could not exist.

So visit Aylsham Station (NR11 6BW) in Norfolk this coming Saturday or Sunday and see how enjoyable it can be to help one of the most advanced 15" gauge railways in the country!

* Guided behind the scenes tours of the railway start at 10 o'clock and go on throughout the day.

* Meet the railway staff, both volunteers and full time paid staff.

* It will be a chance for you to try your hand at driving one of the most powerful 15 gauge steam locomotives in the country.

Come and have a look at the new workshop extension.

The Bure Valley Railway is always looking at ways to improve things, so what ideas can you come up with?

Best wishes,

The BVR trains are now running daily from the 10:00 at Alysham today until the 16:40 from Wroxham on the 2nd November. :)

All trains should be steam hauled, except the extra last train of the day during August.

Steam locos #1, #7, #8 & #9 are all available for traffic. :P

Good luck for the coming season - when you see it put like that it is an awful lot of trains and a lot of work to keep them running.
Have fun and keep steaming :D

Thank you Ivan for your good wishes.

The BVR locomotive fleet has already done over 1,700 miles in the first 3 months of the year. If one considers the total rollingstock mileage this year (locomotives, coaches & wagpns), the figure comes out at over 13,500 miles to date! The standardisation of components, especially the use of roller bearings on all axles, helps to increase availability.

Best wishes,
David Barnes

BVR PRESS RELEASE

Everything Goes!

Spring Bank Holiday Weekend, 24th - 26th May 2014, will be a busy time for the Bure Valley Railway, Norfolk's longest narrow gauge steam railway. All available locomotives, coaches and rolling stock will be in action.

The locomotives will include No.1 "Wroxham Broad", which is celebrating her 50th birthday in 2014. No.1 was unavailable in 2013 as she was on loan to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway from March 2013 to January 2014.

2-6-2T No. 8 will also be in steam bearing her new name following a naming ceremony that was held at Aylsham station on 13th May 2014.

There will also be a chance for visitors to see the newly completed running shed at Aylsham Station.

To keep the younger visitors entertained there will be a competition sheet for the train journey with a free prize for every correct entry.

The workshop at Aylsham will be open throughout the weekend with staff on hand to answer questions and give visitors the chance to see No.6 Blickling Hall stripped down for a heavy overhaul.

Andrew Barnes, BVR General Manager, says, "This event will give railway enthusiasts and families alike the chance to see a collection of world's most powerful 15-inch gauge steam locomotives on display and in operation".

Train fares allow unlimited travel on the day of issue. Children under 5 travel free.
