I was thumbing through my copy of M. Smithers book on Sir Arthur Heywood, which has just arrived through the post...yay! Not a place to find drawings of miniature locos I thought. Well at first glance no but there was a drawing of the so called Super Heywood, a 2-6-2 designed by Henry Greenly it isn’t a complete drawing and the loco was of course never built but a model could still be constructed…watch this space!

Should look like across between Ella and River Esk but a bit bigger. <_<

My drawing, based on that in Smither's book on Arthur Heywood. Tender and details guesstimated using pictures of greenly's later River Esk.

Very nice drawing, I wish I had the skill! I look forward to seeing the model ;)

Thanks for sharing the drawing Simon, you must have taken some time over it.

It is interesting that Greenly had the foresight to design this loco, with the cab a little higher and the overall width increased it would almost be Northern Rock or a Bure Valley 'ZB'.

What scale do you propose to build the model in?

All the best,

Colin

I'm planning on building it in 09, still pondering over chassis or wether I should build a static model first then a motorised one, after I've got the body right. Something tells me it will need a partialy scratchbuilt chassis.

Ideed the loco is incredibly similar to the ZBs and northeren Rock, had it been built it would have been a perfect loco for the Ratty. As can been seen from the valve gear and outside frames and huge cylinders Greenly had learned alot from Heywood while still managing to produce a miniature-looking locomotive

ime had a look at this recently and perhaps a farish 09 chassis could be the power unit the wheelbase would be about right

The Farish chassis might be a bit on the large side. Might be worth having a word with Nev at N-Drive Productions to see if he can offer a chassis that would not only have the right wheel base but would also fit inside the boiler. The web site is www.n-driveproductions.com there is a link to contact Nev.

Latest from Nev at N-Drive is that Katie and Effie should be available early next year. Both will be kits and I would not be surprised to see Effie first as the chassis is much simpler.
