The Great Cockrow Railway has recently been added to my volunteering list. I should be going down there for the first time in December, seeing as its over an hour's journey by train, and a half hour walk, I cant go that often! Whilst finding pictures to give me a rough idea of the site before I went, I found this site: Great Cockrow Railway Photosnaps Some great pics, and it looks like a great collection of locos. I read somewhere that they have a loco from the NRM, anyone know what this particular loco is? Simon |

It's a WD 2-10-0 from what I remember, I think it was made in 1947 by J N Liversage (all this from memory). A chap at the GCR called Tony Hall-Patch used to be head of Land Transport at the Science Museum in South Kensington and he looked after the loco there, I believe he's still around. Interesting model of a rarely seen prototype, finished I think in WD khaki. There's a photo of it in the Ian Allan Great Cockrow book. Have fun! Cheers Anthony |

Thanks AJ, I think you mean this one: WD 2-10-0 I hope it's as good as I'm expecting it to be B) |

That's the one - I checked after posting, it's 1951 built, but everything else is as I put it. Never got to the GCR yet, one day maybe... Cheers Anthony |

I used to go alot when I lived in Haslemere, Surrey. I havent been in a long time, but I can just about remember where everything is! I also hear they've applied for planning permission for a new station building: Station Building PDF From what I can remember, it was all spread out everywhere, and not in the best of conditions The railway will benefit greatly from this new facility.I think the WD's paintwork looks a bit worn, would they have to apply for it to be redone? Or is the Khaki the original from 1951? MTA |

Personally I think it's quite nice to see a work worn engine, but I guess if a repaint is needed, to ask. It was in a light sand colour in the book. |

Rather than see a loco worn, I like to see it covered in filth! Like in the latter days of BR when they knew it was nearing the end and didnt bother to keep them clean
B) Personally I cant wait to see one of their unrebuilt Bulleids running at the GCR, as I'm a Southern fan
