Hi,

Just wondered if anyone out there has heard if Dagenham council have found a new operator for their 9.5" gauge line in Barking Park.

I have read that the park is receiving a HL grant and that the railway is to be 'retained and enhanced'.

Regards
Martin Green.

Hi Martin,

Welcome to the MRW Forums! The Barking Park line closed a few years ago but I believe it is still in situ, as you said looking for a new owner.

Personally I have no news on the line, but I will contact the Council on their website to find out for you.

Thanks
Peter

The line has now reopened, relaid to 7.25" gauge. Currently open Saturdays and Sundays, until the end of October.

A visitor on Sunday 21st September, found the track has not been fully laid yet - it stopped short of one station. There was also no sign of activity, despite it being only 16.05 - and on sunny afternoon.

Has it actually carried any passengers?

Yes, it did carry passengers for a few weekends after the August Bank holiday weekend.

However, the operator has decided not to open to the public again until the end of October school half term, by which time he hopes to have all the track laid. Last thing I heard te track was now down to the far end, but points and run round loop there still to lay.

Latest news: Grand opening ceremony Easter 2009. Probably Good Friday, depending on when the mayor can get there.
