Hi

Next year we are holding a Darjeeling Himalayan Railway/indian Themed day at The Fairbourne Railway over the 26-27th August. We would like to know if there are any 5" replica models of Darjeeling loco's around and Whether or not they would be interested in coming to the event to be displayed/run on some 5" track we have.

Does anyone know of any models of 5" loco's?

All the best

I don't currently know any 5inch gauge locos which are Darjeeling replcias, but try contacting local railway model engineers and they might have some member who has one.

The only replica I think I know is 7.25inch built by David Curwen and I don't know where that is I'm afriad.

Sorry I can't be of more help

Put up a O or 1 gauge layout, as loads of people have Darj locos in those gauges B)

The 7 1/4" "used" to belong to the late Brian Hollingsworth of Llanfrothen and ran on his line there. It guested once at Hilton Valley when I were a lad. Would be good to get it for Fairbourne as Brian ran a 7 1/4" loco at more than one Fairbourne steam gala in the early 1980s, I remember his Rio Grande in about 1981/2 and have a photo of my sister & I riding behind it on temporary track laid inside the 15". Happy hunting.

Back in the 1980s, we also had a 7 1/4" o-6-0 which I think was called Jaipur, owned by Gerald Cox of Rugby, Gerald later emigrated to Australia, but I don't recall if he took Jaipur with him - a very handsome Bagnall pannier tank, bbased on a meter gauge prototype. Also the well known Indian Railway enthusaist and author Lawrie (LG) Marshall was on telly some years ago with his rather nice 5" gauge 2-4-0T based on a Baganll/Yorkshire Engine company for some 2'6" Indian branch whose name escapes me at present, very similar to the groudle Glen locos and the Rye & Camber ones but bigger. All worth research?
