Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

Just wondered if anyone knows the current situation with regard to the 9 1/2 gauge ex-bressingham loco 'Princess' (& coaches & track). The last I heard was that it had been advertised for sale in the Narrow Gauge News a few months ago. I understand the the loco's boiler was in need of considerable work and that the track was quite worn.

If the loco has sold, I would like to contact the new owner - too few people interested in this gauge to not keep in touch!

Regards
Martin Green.

Not seen NGN, but it was at the Princess Royal Trust at Swanwick in Derbyshire in 1999, wonder if they're selling it?

Anthony,It was for sell a few months ago from a private operator I believe.

Your best hope Martin is to probably contact the operator who was selling it, and ask for contact details.

Thanks

Thanks Peter,

You're right- I'll try to contact the seller direct (I'm sure I still have the advert somewhere).

Regards
Martin.

I think Princess was almost definetly for a period of time in 1990s, but I have no recollection of the Matlock engine being there. Will have to have a look. Do you know Martin?

Hi Peter

From memory, I'm reasonably sure that both locos were there at some point.

Haven't got round to getting the advert details out yet, to call and enquire about 'Princess'. The track from Bressingham was there- might still be - gently rusting away (what wasn't worn out).

I'm hoping that who ever does/did buy her, does not regauge from 9 1/2.

Regards
Martin.

Does anyone into 9.5" gauge know of any Atlantic locos built to this gauge? I ask because I have it on good authority that my 7.25" loco was once 9.5" gauge. It is far too big to be a standard Gauge 7.25".

I am intrigued by the loco which is I believe dated from the 1920's at least in its build start date.

THe loco has a rivetted boiler of wide firebox design. It has outside valve gear with piston valves. I am not sure how much is original and how much is later build.

Any information on 9.5" Atlantics which might be similar would be gratefully recieved.

I believe Bassett-Lowke built a number of Great Northern Railway atlantics to 9.5" gauge.

Hi Lambrail

Do you have any history of your loco - does it have/had a name.

I am aware of one 9 1/2 loco converted to 7 1/4, named 'King Tut', but can't remember if it was an atlantic - I'll try to track down an old photo.

King Tut was a 2-4-2 loco.

Craig,

You're spot on - I've found a photo of it in its latter 9 1/2 days.

Any idea what happened to it?

Martin. :)
