I'm sure i saw a 10¼" gauge Class 47 in use at Joe nemeths railway, but can't find any details to it. Can anyone give any details / pictures of this and other standard gauge diesels. Ta |

The class 47 is called 'Hercules' and was built by David and Dave Wiseman. It is currently sitting in the back of the carriage shed at Pulborough. 3 gears, 2 forward one reverse and is powered by a Ford 100E petrol engine. Hope this is of help

There were a few pics of Hercules on Joe's site when he had it. It went there as we had it for a long time and it was 'getting in the way', so Dave took it to Joe who repainted it and fixed various bits. I quite fance something like the 47!!!! Theres lots of other options though, the class 27's at Kerrs and obviously theres the curwen western but they are like rocking horse #### and i don't fancy making all those angled pieces!!! Any pictures for inspiration welcomed, along with drive ideas! Craig |

How about the Severn-Lamb Warship style locos? In that I include the scale versions as well as the oversize caricatures like that at Newby Hall, Lappa Valley and Ruislip Lido (12")... Ruislip one is still for sale, I think. |

Thank god... It's a super, good-looking loco and really didn't need that much work to be made suitable for running again; it was only some issues with the wheel treads. I met the marketing guys at the London Engineering Expo - they were good chaps and I'm sure it'll be a great ambassador for them. I think Mardyke made a few 10.25" gauge locos - best people to ask for such lists of scale stock are either Matt Rutherford, or Dave Holroyde of NGRS. |

I have looked through webarchive on all the updates to www.cattlecountryrailway.co.uk, but can't find the pics of the 47. I can remember it though on there, and they were good!!!! I seem to remember Joe saying he couldn't drive it but Dan managed ok...... Can anyone shed some light on where i should be looking????? |

The back of Pulborough's carriage shed! We have to put it there as it has no use on our line. The wheelbase is too long and derails on our curves, and the chain drive falls off

Thanks Simon. What scale is it to - Looks huge. What is your minimum radius down there then if it derails - would have thought it would be no worse than the duchess!!! Shame it is no use - would it regauge to 7¼ Craig |

I'm not to good on my radiuses, so I can't answer that
The Duchess goes round quite well! I think the 47 derails so much because it is 6 wheels to a bogie, and all have flanges... If the middle set on the bogie was flangeless, it might go round! I would thinik it is to the same scale as the Duchess (2" 3/8ths)...

Craig, I often think that Brian's 7.25" 47's just need new wheelsets to 10.25 and they could easily pass it off! This machine looks as if it is a similar size, but may be more to scale.
