Ready to run? I'd recommend the bigger stuff from Maxitrak:

Try Model Engineering Supplies, Bexhill; Ride on Railways and Compass House Railways. Their locos tend to be more powerfull than the maxitrak ones. Just remember you need 1Hp (748W) to move 1 ton (16 adults) at 10 MPH.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Maxitrak locos, unless you simply want to potter about garden railways, club tracks and at rallies, for which they serve the purpose admirably. But for serious pulling-power potential you ought to look for something else.

Try Ride-on-Railways - http://www.rideonrailways.co.uk/, their Trojan and Hercules locos look good.

Cheers,

We did test one on a short portable track a few years back. It struggled to gain adhesion on even a small gradient with more than 3 passengers. If you're looking for a good basic starter, I'd also recommend Ride on Railways, or Compass House. If you want something that has decent adhesion in 5" gauge, I'd probably go for a bogie loco rather than an 0-4-0.

Hi - I can recommend the Ride on Railways Hercules. I had a Maxitrak Coronation and it could only pull 2 people round my garden line and that was with a struggle !!

The Hercules walks away with 4 people without any effort - I'm only limited by the amount of rolling stock I have !!

Paul at Ride on Railways is really helpful - the locos are well designed, simple to put together and virtually bomb proof.

I'm planning to buy another Ride on Railways loco in the future as I am so impressed wih the Hercules. One of my friends had a Trojan and that was also a very impressive performer.

Feel free to email me if you want any more info.

With best wishes,

Steve Kesterton.
