Hello, Jordan, welcome to the Forums!

I hold Lady Wakefield as one of my favourite 15" diesel engines, but much prefer the old maroon livery she used to wear, not the current blue one.

Cheers,

Hi Jordan/Rough-Shunter!

Your half size Lady Wakefield sounds like an interesting project, certainly an impressive loco, Mr Holmes of this parish has a half built 1/24th scale model that I need to pursuade him to finish!

All the best,

Colin

Hi Jordan,
Like the sound of your loco. Look forward to seeing it develop.

Agree with Dom, its one of the best of its type, & maroon suited it very well. Last saw it in bits at Ravenglass yard pending refurb (i hope) earlier this year.

Jordan,
I'm Craig, Ex Pendle Forest and Rolling Stock Superintendant of Burnley and Pendle Miniature Railway, based in Thompson Park, which i am guessing is where your loco would run??? I also have a large involvement in 15".

Have you been down the park yet? Obviously Brian is the person to talk to at Pendle Forest!

yes ive been down the park a few times and yes that is where i would hope to run it but at the moment the project is on hold as i have a 009 exerbition layout to finish off and realy looking at it it will be far too big for transportation so i may be loking into building a lister railtruck or a small simplex type shunter the main criteria are that it wil have to be petrol mechanical as i dont get battery electricsor hydralics

Jordan,

Petrol-hydraulics aren't that difficult - get your engine (Honda GX240 (8hp) with electric start I would recommend), an Eaton 7 hydrostatic unit, belt and pulleys to connect the two (at a suitable ratio), chain and sprockets (again at a suitable ratio) to connect the Eaton to the wheels, mount the whole lot on the bogie, connect controls, done. Basically. :)

As long as you have an adequately wide body for the swing of the engine (Craig's old 47 was 21inches wide but built for VERY sharp curves ), and (obviously) keep on top of maintenance, you'll have no trouble at all. Start on the button and will pull like a mule all day for a gallon of petrol. AND it'll be more reliable than the prototype appears to be at the moment! :o

I know it's a trek () but if you can get yourself to DMR then ask one of the drivers to have a look at the gubbins then you'll see how simple it is. Tell them I sent you :D

If you have any more queries, feel free to PM me.

Cheers,

Dom Greenop

Don't worry, she's more grey than blue at the minute, from all the dust. And I don't reckon we'll be seeing her back in action for a long while yet, not whilst there are three steam engines needing lots of attention ASAP! (Esk - boiler certificate ends in less than a fortnight; Mite - needs to be ready for traffic for a fortnight's time; Rock - needs major dismantling!) Oh, and silly season begins in two weeks time... what fun.

Rough-shunter, I reckon your model of the Doris will be completed before the real thing, at this rate.
