The 15" gauge Dreamland Miniature Railway at the Margate amusement park of the same name closed in 1980. As far as I'm aware the Barnes loco and stock have been in store ever since. The Dreamland park has suffered almost terminal decline over the last decade and only survives today thanks to the efforts of those who have campaigned to have the 1920s scenic railway (roller coaster) given listed building status.

The 'Save Dreamland' campaign have recently produced a masterplan for resoring part of the park as a 'heritage' amusement park, in conjunction with a theme-park designer.

The plan, which can be seen here, includes the restoration of the original Dreamland miniature railway stock to run on a new route. OK, so on the plan the curves are a 'little' on the sharp side, but if this should ever happen (and it is really a case of if) it is good to see this aspect of amusement park heritage included.

The steam loco "Billie" was for sale a year or so ago - £40k, I'm told. Don't know if it sold or if it's still in storage. There was a rather large diesel loco too, which now has a different identity at another line - I forget which.

The diesel loco, Dusty Bin as it is affectionatly known, is now at Evesham. We have Red Drawon and 2 of the original Bassett Lowke 4w coaches at Windmill Farm. Preston Steam Services have Billie and the bogie coaches.

Very promising news, & great pics Tim, Not seen those before.

Picture 2 looks like the loco is being driven by Jim Morrison!

The guy fronting the Save Dreamland campaign is Nick Laister, who also runs Joyland Books. He was instrumental in helping me rescue some buildings from Ramsgate Model Village when that closed too. An all-round nice chap and passionate about saving Dreamland. It looks a mess at the moment; I hope they manage to succeed with their very individual plans.

Have been in contact with Nick Laister, one of the frontmen of the campaign to Save Dreamland. It's not endgame yet chaps - Dreamland has a lot of supporters and a good business plan behind it. They all seem pretty positive!

Thanks, Tim, good to hear.

Shame that they were victims of vandals anyway, but nice to know they are thinking positively and not letting the challenges get them down! :)

Cheers,

Ay, I'm glad to hear this isn't the end of the project.

But the vandalism is still sickening. Whoever's responsible deserves some time in a cell to think about what they've done - if they're even capable of thought...

As other have said. Sickening news when others are working hard to try and make a go of it.

Would I be right in saying that Billie will be the one Barnes loco missing from the proposed line up at Rhyl at the end of May?

Cheers
