'Peggy' has had a tee piece installed in the blower for an air - line for lighting up purposes. Our AGM is being held on the 15th March. A video by Andy Sleigh of last Sunday (9th March) features both 319 and 334 in steam, along with a clip of Chriss Knibb's GWR 47XX 2-8-0 No. 4701. Nicknamed 'Night Owls'. The video also features the Queen Mary Brake Van in use: http://andysleigh.blip.tv/#739042 |

The Queen Mary Brakevan is now resident, here are some pics.![]() ![]() ![]() I'm ashamed to say I cannot tell you what all the bits do as I have not been instructed on how to use it yet! All I can tell you is that the black, horizontal lever applies the air brakes and the red button is to activate a rather loud air horn The carriage shed is slowly being taken apart, with the Southern Railway style valancing having been taken off of the front. ![]() Also, some of the metalwork for the new engine shed has been moved into the secure part of the site. ![]() Arctic Prince is almost near completion after having its bogies rolled out. One bogie is complete, and the other needs the brake rigging to be installed before they can be rolled back in. Finally, a picture of 319 (shame about the background!)

The Queen Mary Brake Van is our first step towards air braked rolling stock. So far, the Mardyke coaches and Peggy are fitted with air brakes and apparently they work rather well with the Queen Mary supplying the air. We had a few problems with the Queen Mary derailing on the curve just over the summit, but this was found to be that the track had become 10 1/2 inch gauge! So it has been regauged and we should soon be testing the Queen Mary again. |

I really like the opening titles, particularly the shot of the 4F appearing through the 8F's steam B) |

3 uprights have been installed for the new engine shed, as well as the foundations having been dug. We have a new announcement system in place, whereby when the train is ready to leave the crossing man pushes a bell plunger and activates a recording stating not to stick hands out etc. and what to do in the unlikely event of a 'mishap'. Another note is that the voice is that of the same man that also did the recordings for the Channel Tunnel 'Le Shuttle' services! Arctic Prince is currently away, presumably gone visitin'. Chris Knibb's GWR 2-8-0 has now departed, so for the first time we actually have space in the shed! I didn't look in depth, but I believe Dave Wiseman's Class 47 has now left us as well (sorry Craig!) |

'Peggy' was in use today, and I drove her for the first time
 Her injectors are still a wee bit dodgy, but not as bad as they were... The Royal Scot has suffered a sheared regulator rod, so is going to be taken away to be worked on. Mardyke 'Arctic Prince' is on holiday at the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway. The Queen Mary Brake Van has been well received, I had my first trip in her today and the ride is smooth and very comfortable. She is currently hooked up to the Mardyke coach set, which has been fitted with air braking equipment as well. As can be seen elsewhere on the forum, Flying Scotsman is for sale on View Models. Concrete was being poured into the trench for the (already installed) pillars for the new engine shed. We have recovered old 7 1/4" gauge panels from the bushes to use as reinforcing rods! The track having been used on the railway prior to the SDLR taking over. The new Ticket Office is proving its worth. It is nice and cool in the summer, and warm in the winter We have also launched a range of little gifts and souvenirs, we were given an example of a badge today. It just so happened to bear a picture of a 15" gauge Kerr Stuart Wren on a railway in Nottinghamshire. Now where could that be?

The metalwork for the new engine shed is now largely in place. 771 is suffering from a problem with the mechanical lubricator. Steam is leaking into the lubricator, and this is soon to be rectified (all being well!) Arctic Prince is still on holiday, apparently she worked well at the ELR's diesel gala. A new instrument has been added in the signal box, in readiness for point operation from the signal box. I believe these will control the loco release point and the two loop points. P.S. Could a mod please move this to the 'News' board please? Edited by MTA, 22 Jun 2008, 09:24 PM.

The new engine shed is coming along at a pace:![]() 771's mechanical lubricator is not suffering the steam leaking problems anymore, I drove her all day (except when I had my lunch of course!) and I can only describe her as on wheels! A crisp exhaust beat and a free steaming boiler, what more could you ask of an engine?! ![]() ![]() Arctic Prince has now returned from her working holiday on the ELR. This weekend is the 'Teddy Bears Picnic. Today we had 'Pulborough' and 'Sir Sagramore' in steam, with the Roanoke hauling the goods train. Tomorrow, all being well; 5156, 13245 and Peggy will be in steam. |

The new engine shed has come a long way. The back and two sides are finished and the workshop has been finished, with various machinery and tooling installed along with the appropriate electricity supply. Last weekend the first brick arch of the three roads was being put together at the front of the shed. The majority of the brick fronting is also largely completed and a mock up for the traverser has been made. 13245 is out of action as new safety valves are being sourced, the current pair were leaking by so much that a suitable working pressure couldn't be maintained. Arctic Prince is back at Eastleigh, and Merlin has been fitted with a diesel engine. The Royal Scot is away for further repairs. A couple of weeks ago, we hosted a visit by the Heywood society. We had 334, 319, 771, 4472 and 5156 in steam and they seemed to enjoy themselves despite the weather. |
