The East Somerset Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (ESSMEE) will be opening and operating their Bath and West Railway at the Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, during the four days of this show. New features include a complete circuit which involves a 12 metre skew bridge made up of two spans, and a full signalling system.

Three trains will be running all day from 9.30 until 6pm throughout all four days. All rides £1.

More info on ESSMEE/B&WR can be found at http://www.essmee.org.uk
More info on the Royal Bath and West Show can be found at http://www.bathandwest.com/

I shall be evident on all four days in a variety of positions form driving and guarding to banksman and level crossing keeping. If you attending the show (the trade stands will keep her happy while you indulge in trains and real ales), do come and say hello. I shall take some pictures during the event.

Cheers,

Well a successful show was had by all despite bad weather on both Wednesday and Thursday. The following table shows how passenger figures compared to the 2006 show. Makes for interesting reading.

Day - Passengers (2006 figure)
Wednesday - 1039 (1072)
Thursday - 1450 (1453)
Friday - 2035 (1362)
Saturday - 2001 (1399)
Total - 6525 (5286)

Each day started at 9.45, and while the morning sessions were never that busy, all trains were fully loaded from about 1 o'clock onwards. We were carrying passengers on the Friday until 6.30 - a full 9 hours of steam! It has to be said we would've carried on and made sure we got 2000 on Saturday (1977 by 5.30), even if we had to grab hold of people by their necks! As it was the last train left dead on 6.

On Friday we were graced with the presence of HRH the Duke of Kent, who rode the train from Lakeside to Prestleigh Brook station.

Locos in use:

Romulus "Joan" Owned by R. Ashdown
Tinkerbell "Ladybird" Owned by C. Bird
Kerr-Stuart "Sir Isaac" Owned by D. Marshall
"Laus Deo" Owned by T. Marshall
0-4-0PH shunter Owned by ESSMEE

So, pictures time! Not many pictures were taken, but a selection are given here:

An enjoyable week had by all, and the powers that be were also very impressed. Roll on the rest of our public running!
