Wanted - Outline Drawings

Since getting bitten by the miniature railway modelling bug, one of my activities has been sourcing and building up a collection of drawings of subjects that are either suitable for modelling or just plain interesting. The type of thing I'm after includes the sets of drawings on Heywood and Ravenglass stock drawn by John Strong and Owen Ryder some years ago, the excellent Fairbourne drawings in the Milner book: Rails Through the Sand; the Heywood drawings in the Mark Smithers book, through to a side view of Green Goddess that I scanned from a plastic bag and managed to get to 7mm scale in the scanner by using the only known dimension at the time - the driving wheel diameter!

In other words, I'm not after full engineering drawings, just accurate ones that will enable comparisons to be made between various items of stock. What I am particularly after at the moment includes drawings showing at least side view of (and with some basic dimensions to enable scaling):

1. A Bassett Lowke class 10 Atlantic

2. All RHDR stock - I only have the single side view mentioned above of Green Goddess, nothing else. As Ratty drawings exist for just about every item of stock they ever had, surely something similar is available for the Romney stock? I'd particularly like to get hold of drawings of The Bug, Gladys, the Clayton Pullman and the Royal Saloon.

3. Current CCLR stock including the Sutton locos and coaches and the Bushmills stock.

4. Just about anything else in 15" gauge!

Can anyone help out or point me in the right direction to be able to source this kind of thing please?

Many thanks

Mick

Mick,

There is a side on drawing of The Bug in WJK Davis' RHDR tomb, I have a photocopy that may scan OK.

There are drawings of the Sutton coaches and locos in John Tidmarsh's book, I have a copy and can scan.

Bush Mill wise I may be able to conjour up some leading dimensions of the coaches.... as for other Cleethorpes stock it's a 'no' - at the moment...

There are several technical drawings in the 'Little Giant Story' but I've no desire to flatten the book out and put it on the scaner, it's a bit precious! However for a class 10 drawings in both the Sutton and Fairbourne books might hold the ansswer.

Hope that helps, please bear with me for the scans, my scanner ain't always wnting to play

Thanks very much for the offers Colin!

1. Bug - yes, go for it! Don't worry about trying to scale it if that is a problem as I have derived the recipe with my calculator that works quite well in my own scanner, so I can get it to the right scale - as long as I can get a couple of dimensions - driving wheel diameter can normally suffice; wheelbase, overall length, etc is even better.

2. Sutton Coaches & Locos - same as the Bug - yes please!

3. Bush Mills - don't worry, really only wanted Mountaineer so that I could compare with other 0-4-0 tender locos but the recent Gala photo sets give sufficient idea on that one - I imagine it is somewhere between Pet and St Egwyn/The Bug in size, only way to find out is to go and see it for myself I suppose!

4. Little Giant Story - quite understand! Maybe it would stand laying on the bed of a photocopier at work?....... Not to worry. The Milner Fairbourne book has class 20 and 30 locos, but not class 10. :(

Thanks again for the interest.

Mountaineer is a lot closer to Pet in size than St Egwin/Bug. Got a photo somewhere...Ah, here it is...

This is our good volunteer, Laurie, standing against Mountaineer.

And here is one of our locomotives lined up to see how well she fitted in with our stock...

Yeah, i know there is the whole perspective thing, but you may be able to scale from the first photo, given laurie is roughly 6'2"ish

Thanks very much for that, David, and for the critical key dimension - I do take it that Laurie (at 6ft 2in) is NOT the guy in the red T shirt with the horizontal blue stripe, standing in the cab in photo 2 ? :D :D

Mick,

For RH&DR you should make contact with Graham Lindley who built the Hythe layout in 12mm/ft scale.

I have side views of Greenly's 4-4-2 and 4-6-2 designs from 'Greenlys Model Steam Locomotives'. Interested?

Paul,

Many thanks for the offer - yes please, I would very much appreciate the Greenly drawings. :)

I know Graham Lindley very well as a fellow Wessex NGM member. Unfortunately he isn't on email. I'm actually due to see his layout this weekend at the Wessex event at Exbury Gardens (ADVERT!) and hope to get some photos of the Hythe stock. The layout itself is not photogenic, having no backscene, so most shots of Green Goddess etc are accompanied by large scale background views of human hands and tummies! :(

regards

I remember seeing that layout at the Uckfield ME when I used to live there. Absolutely gorgeous layout and I spent the best part of an hour watching the running arrangements!

If anyone can help wth a drg of a Barlow S/O loco i'd be grateful. Even just some dimensions would do. I'm waiting on info arriving from both Lakeside & Saltburn but nothing has come through so far, despite me being a pest.

So far I've got various photos & literature from certain kind patrons of this forum, but nothing to figure out a scale plan as yet.
