Ok, not quite as interesting as the Cleethorpes gala that was on the same weekend, but we still had some interesting workings at Ruislip on the 9th September. Pictures at http://steamandheritagerailways.fotopic.net/c1371078.html - please have a look if you have time! :)

Nice pics!

One of my earliest memories is of a (presumably) Sunday morning after watching my dad racing dinghies on the lido, going on an open-top train behind Robert. I was smitten by that loco and miniature railways ever since. My family was involved in the Lido for many years - but it broke their hearts to see it fall apart in the 1990s. I don't think any have been back since.

Have there been any further plans to extend the line around the rest of the lake again? There were often suggestions for it to happen, but never materialised. That and a short 7.25" gauge line for younger volunteers - but I think that's been canned too now?

I am constantly surprised by the popularity of the line and indeed the Lido park - when we visited last November it was freezing cold but absolutely heaving full of people.

Well I guess it is always going to have that factor, Tim. After all it is a line that you visit because it's there and you are a local, other than the ###### miniature railway enthusiasts. The visitor numbers will always be heaving simply because of the popularity of the Lido - I guess both the lake and the railway benefit of each other.

And, yes - I think both plans have been scrapped, but Murray will know for sure.

A nice collection of photos there, Murray, thanks for sharing.

It seems that Ruislip Lido has a long and complicated history I never knew about before. Could someone enlighten me on to key details?

Cheers,

Well I think the railway has extended as far as it is going to for the forseeable future. Any ideas of joining the line up to make a complete circle round the lake were quickly disspelled when someone realised that the line would then have to charge VAT on it's tickets!

The idea for a 7.25" line was really just a personal project by one of our younger members who happened to have a load of 7.25" track and parts for an engine. It's been dead and buried for a long time now.

Could anyone confirm the make and type or horsepower of the engines currently installed in locos 7,8 and 9 at Ruislip Lido Rly. Info required for NGRS special on Severn-Lamb locos due out this summer. Thanks , Dave Holroyde
