Just chatting and got to thinking about the old Skegness Miniature Railway and wondered what happened to the rolling stock...
The original, i seem to recall, was 3(?) battery electric locos, with one on charge wilst the other(s) did the day's work. Think it was 10 1/4", but memory fails me more often than not...

It closed down, then reopened in a simplified form with one of Keith Hardy's loco's, BE2 I believe, re-built into a double decker tram by CCLR. It's not been running now for a good few years, but I would be interested to find out what actually happened to the rolling stock.
"Mister, where does the petrol go?"

Well according to the Watford Miniature Railway website, Ivor and The Fisherman were based there for a time. Ivor has apparently been sold to a private owner but the current location of The Fisherman is, according to site, unknown...

So was there only two loco's? Am I right about the gauge being 10 1/4"? What happened to the coaches? I remember them being quite attractive and smooth riding, running on the aluminium rails...

David,

It was 10.25" gauge and there were 3 locomotives there as far as I aware.

Ivor

Fisherman

I can't remember the name of the other, but will find out for you. I have some details somewhere aswell so will get these for you.

Thanks
Peter

The third engine was called Sea Breeze and was AFAIK was identical to The Fisherman. No idea what happened to her though.

I have suspected for a while that the coaches, or at least some of them, could be the ones at Kirkby Green, they certainly look similar....

Colin

PS, bits of the Tram are still at Cleethorpes, notably part of the frame in the undergrowth, the recently built brake van is also a chunk of frame, and the top rails from it's double deck days were used as barriers in the musuem building during Models & Steam!

Locos:
4wp IVOR is/was with one of the drivers at Knebworth
4wp S/O BIG 'UN is I think in Ireland
BE THE FISHERMAN iirc is scrapped
BE SEA BREEZE last I heard was for sale from J. Crosskey about 6 years ago.

Carriages could well be those at Kirkby Green if they have 2 x 4 carriage sets to the Ian Allan design. Otherwise I guess they're at Cassiobury Park.

Someone else will be able to fill in/correct details!

The frame of the brake van was part of the first build of the tram when it was a 2 car artic set. We cut that bit out and made it a single car tram.

It was me and an other bloke that built it. It never was a success for 2 reasons. 1 the power unit was not up to the job. 2 the location was very bad and we never got the people rideing on it. It lasted just under 2 years. I dont know of any pic's of it being built or of it running.

There are 4 pictures on Fotopic of the tram in it's original form, first one is here, then use the next key....

I'm sure there was a picture of the double deck rebuild in NGN at the time (I'm sure it was attributed to Chris Shaw). I'll see if I can find it in my archive pile (haven't sorted 'S' lines out yet).

Hi All
Just to say the top deck on the last build of the tram {double deck} was only a dummy deck to make it look more tram like. I didnt want people to get the idea it was a working top deck.
