No, not the most comfortable position is it? Then again, with that loco there never was a comfortable position.... One of the jobs 'to do' is a new driver figure in an even more uncomfortable position :lol

The car sunshade was inserted by dismantling the model and fixing it in place, the car was given a coat of matt varnish too to kill the glossy finish.

Your train is cancelled due to the lack of the tea can on the footplate.

After last week's trip to Ceethorpes I braved the Lincolnshire coast for a second week running for see the new diesel on trial at the SMR. Resplendent in two-tone green (except where the chief engineer has had his mucky fingers) test running has commenced at long last (it has been built since July!).

Luckily it was a bright day, but cold, some pics:

After some sucessful test runs, the loco took over from 'Cumbria' on passenger duties. here

Returning from the passenger run.

The management and enginering team at the SMR are very impressed and the loco will continue to be tested throughout January. Indeed, she will be running at the 7mm NGA Open Day in Mickleover, Derby, on Jan 17th, so you can come an see for yourself!

Name wise there are two options, firstly 'Maid Marian' as an in-joke (it is the same colours as the now departed 'Robin Hood') or perhaps 'Kestrel', as it is a bigger bird than 'Jay'...

Is that a model of Chris Shaw giving the instructions to the Driver?

I didn't even notice the similarity until Mr Shaw pointed it out....

There is a rare chance to see Shifting Sands this coming weekend at the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association Derby members day, held in Mickleover (Details: http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Admin/Shows/tvg3.htm). Come and say Hi, see the latest stock and maybe even have a turn at the controller!

For those making a day of it Markeaton Park isn't too far away for a dose of the real thing....

Shifting Sands - the railway we'd all love to visit but will never be able.

The lighting on the layout always seems so realistic and bright - how do you achieve that?

I'd like to visit and see what the rest of the line looks like.... :D

The lighting yesterday was a mix of our two spots plus the flourescents in the hall we were in. It played merry hell with the auto white balance of the camera and although I got it right in most shots some have had some post-production to reset the balance. At home a flourescent desk lamp and a daylight bulb equipped anglepoise of some vintage do the honours. Again, there is a degree of post production.

Jordan, I was only joking last week, no plans to dispose of this just yet,but one day I will run out of storage space :(
