Very interesting photos Charles, well done for finding them :)
It's interesting that Yeo Valley seems to have become a 2-8-2T in those photos - in the postcard view previously posted in the "Exmoor locos" thread she is an 0-8-2T, with a much shorter front-end. Personally I think she was more attractive in her original form, but if those photos are from '91 then she must have been modified very early in her life. I presume the extra wheels must have been to improve riding, unless anyone knows different?
As far as i know Yeo Valley was built as an 2-8-0T and ran in that form until she was stripped of parts. It's a shame she was stripped as she looked to be a nice loco :( . I'm sure someone will know.

The day after tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. So you've got a couple of days to do what you want.

Yeo Valley was always a 2-8-0T until stripped down and the motion and cylinders reused. The boiler was much shorter than it apeared with a very long smokebox. The remains are still at exmoor.

The railway at exmoor is still complete and in regular use. There are 3 steam locomotives in use: Lorna Doone, Denzil and Dennis
We ran Denzil about 10 days ago. The new 2-4-2T with an unprouncable name for Peter smith is finished and had been waiting for 2c weeks for collection. A 7.25 inch gauge green 0-4-2T for a private line in Devon is almost finished. The intention is then to relay parts of the 12.25 inch gauge line this autumn and to add a passing loop to two trains can run. The points and track intended for Tintern have been acquired for this. More carriages are planned as only one is left and more are needed if the planned open days are to happen in 2009.
A second 12.25 inch Mariloo type loco is well underway but where it is finally going I do not know except its not Exbury.

Well at any rate, the front end was lengthened - here's the postcard view I was referring to...

Thanks for the info Mike, interesting stuff. I've heard that the second Mariloo will be staying at Exmoor, but as always I could be completely wrong.

As for Yeo Valley, I'd suggest she was actually built with a longer front end (as seen in the photos I found which are posted in this thread and dated 1991) and was later rebuilt with the shorter front, as seen in the postcard and this 2000 photo.

Latest word on the grapevine is that another loop of 12 1/4" gauge is currently going in at Bratton Fleming, along with at least 1/2 mile of 2ft gauge. I hear that the car park is/was full of piles of track from Trecwn.

Thats right. If you look at my webpage on Exmoor you will also see a photo of the new Mariloo type loco Black Beauty. Work has actually stopped on the new tracks for the winter and so a couple of new 7.25 inch gauge locos are underway. Some of the track from trecwyn is stored for the Lynton & Barnstaple railway. There are also some narrow gauge diesels and rolling stock.

Is there an informal link and spirit of co-operation between Exmoor and the L&B teams? It would make sense for them to work together if not just to make the most of their isolated yet adjacent locations; although I don't know if the long term aims of the Exmoor chaps is to create a visitor attraction again.

There are close but informal links with the L&B. The L&B have a workshop in Bratton Fleming just down the road & next to Roanoke. Exmoor lend use of their equipment and facilities regularly.
In my view the L& B is a somewhat fragmented organisation with various groups pursuing not always identical objectives. Which is a shame . However what they have developed at Woody bay is impressive.
It is possible that Exmoor will open to the public again but more likely that they will do Alan Keef style open days from time to time. The railway is still developing and impressive and will be more so when the 2 extensions are done.
