Not every danger for travelers comes from the environment or sentient creatures. Many planets are inhabited by creatures that pose problems for any would-be adventurer. Each is ranked by a danger level. A danger level of 1 means that unless you actually drop your weapons and surrender to it you will win. A danger level of 10 means that they pose a threat to the most well-armed adventurers that should not be ignored. Bovix- A huge cowlike organism that is used by the Raxan as food, and one of the few Raxis animals that has survived the Raxan activities. This creature is over 30 feet long and has powerful horns. Being domesticated, however, it will usually not attack. Danger level: 2 Earthpounder- A 2 and a half foot tall beaverlike creature with green compound eyes, sharp claws, a single horn and opposable thumbs that stands upright. This creature's greatest asset is a large, flat tail that is extremely powerful. When threatened, it will dig its claws into the ground and pound its tail so hard that it creates tremors and makes sounds so loud it can be heard for miles. Its teeth and claws are also very sharp, which it will use if its warnings are not heeded. However, it is herbivorous and subsists on berry plants, which provide not only all its food but also all its water. It is native to the Psyclos savannahs. Despite its weaponry, it will not attack humanoids unless provoked. For this reason, most Psyclos natives do not fear Earthpounders and they are even kept as pets there. Danger level: 4 Nessian- Named for the lake in which these creatures first appeared, this earth monster is a relic from the Earth Mesozoic era. Long thought to be a myth, an unknown force has made these creatures aggressive towards any person who ventures in or even near the lake. Danger level: 5 Fighterfly- A four-winged fly native to Telkazor that uses two arms with spikes on their ends to skewer foes. The fly is about 2 feet in length and has a more spherical shape than other insects. These usually attack in swarms, and appears to be an intermediate form between a group insect and a hive mind insect. Although hard to hit, they are not very powerful, and, strangely, have no poison. Danger level: 5 Shimmer Spider- A creature native to Krix-nor that appears to be a spiderlike organism. This creature shapes and attaches iron to its six legs and mandibles for weaponry. Its first set of weaponry is given to it by its mother, and they use their old weaponry to make new sets. How the very first Shimmer Spider shaped their first weapon is unknown. Danger level: 6 Volcano golem- A 9-foot tall, silicon-based beast found on Faeron that has a hard exterior and is very territorial. It has special cells that transform cooled lava into nutrients and supplements its diet with other organisms. It has a black color to it with bright red eyes, and looks like the cooled lava on which it feeds. It is extremely territorial and is not afraid to attack humanoids. If threatened, it will attack with powerful swipes of its arms and vomit up cooled or even hot lava. Danger level: 6 Scarnipo- The savage brothers of the Scorin race. While the Scorin developed their minds, the Scarnipo developed their size. The result is a giant, armored Scorin 30 feet high, which must walk on four legs to support its bulk. While not being as intelligent as their sapient brothers, they are quite cunning. The spikes on their tails are hard as steel and extremely dangerous. Danger level: 6 Valker- To casual observers, the Valker appears as no more than a large brown ostrich-like creature with wings. However, Valker are smarter than domestic dogs and perhaps even as intelligent as dolphins. Valker are very fierce creatures, and its flock will fiercely defend their territory. The Valker have an ostrich-like body structure with long wings with red patterns on the underside of their wings used for communication (a trick used by many Falke wildlife). Their head is large and eagle-like, with a large beak. They have three legs, two in front and a rarely-used one on the back. When threatened, they will stand on their third leg and use the other two to slash their enemies wide open. They hunt in packs like wolves, but are must more dangerous due to their aerial nature. The Falken have domesticated these creatures and in the past used them in a similar way that the humans once used horses. Their intelligence, their ability to fly (an ability no self-respecting Falken would give up for a little bit of extra speed), and their strength made them ideal mounts as well as workers. Now, Valker are used for recreational purposes. Danger level: 5 (Individual Valker), 8 (In packs) Red-patterned Gale Frog- This creature native to the Telkazor swamps appears as very large, 6-foot long frog. If threatened, it will puff up to 5 times its size and unleash a torrent of air that sweeps away adventurers. Danger level: 8 Bogarian- This unusual creature is not a single organism, but a colony of microscopic ones. Bogarians move through the Telkazorian swamps, eating anything, plant or animal, that gets in its way. The Bogarian will keep growing as long as it has enough food to eat, and is extremely difficult to kill. The best advice upon encountering a Bogarian is to run. They move very slowly with the exception of the largest colonies, and it is for this reason that they prey mostly on the sleeping, dead, or dying. Incidentally, a Telkazorian folk tale tells of a Bogarian that, if the story is accurate, could have been seen from space. The story is almost certainly an exaggeration, as a Bogarian that size would require tremendous amounts of food. Danger level: 1-10 Varva- A Falke creature that has one and only one mission: to eat whatever it can find. The Varva looks like a grub with eight legs, with one exception: trailing it is an enormous, bloated stomach. The Varva has but one mission: to eat absolutely anything it can find. It knows no fear: anything and everything organic it finds, it will envelope it and store it in its massive, pulpy organ. It will not stop eating until its incredibly elastic stomach has stored 400 tons of food, which it will then use to complete its transformation into the Earthshaker. Danger level: Unknown Earthshaker - This Falke native is as terrifying as it sounds. The Earthshaker appears as an 210 foot long, 100 foot high, 2500 ton turtle with what appear to be two arms each with one claw on either side of its head. The Earthshaker has eight legs to support its massive bulk and a tough shell surrounding its body. It has six eyes and a large mouth, as well as a massive tail for balance. Nearly every feature of its body is specially designed to support this massive beast. This is not a mere overgrown space turtle, this is one of the most well-designed predators ever to have evolved. The Earthshaker burrows into the ground. Once it sinks into the ground, it becomes covered in soil as well as Khrak trees. These trees can grow in soil, but they flourish by growing on living organisms, especially the Earthshaker. The energy loss by the Earthshaker is negligible in comparison to the extra camouflage offered. If approached, it will quickly push itself out of the ground. If the force of it emerging does not stun the foe, then it will release a harpoon-like structure from its arms to attack its fleeing foe. The claw is connected to a string-like organ that is used to withdraw the weapon after use, which it does surprisingly quickly. The harpoon is launched using a rudimentary hydraulic system. The Earthshaker has helium-filled air sacs inside its body to reduce its weight. Upon releasing the harpoon, the Earthshaker locks the bones in its legs in place and squeezes the helium gas into the area of the harpoon to fire. This is why a fully-grown Earthshaker cannot walk and fire at the same time. It uses echolocation to locate prey when underground, but can focus these beams to stun its foes or even be used for a kinetic attack that pushes prey backwards. It has large, powerful claws on its front feet that while mostly used to burrow, can also be used for attack. Its tail is large and strong. The Earthshaker's one weakness is its slowness. Simply put, it walks really slowly. It counters this by using its harpoons, which it can fire at extremely rapid speeds. The Earthshaker has an extremely complicated nervous system. There is a "brain" in each of its legs, in its head, and in its tail. All are needed to coordinate its movement. Because of this impressive array, it is surprisingly intelligent, although it rarely needs to use more than 40% of its brainpower. It will eat anything and everything, plant and animal, and it even is capable of absorbing nutrients from the soil. It lowers its metabolism to that of hibernating bears when hiding, which it will sometimes do for weeks on end. How the Earthshaker supports itself is largely a mystery. Its legs are made almost entirely of a silicon-based skeleton, and the gravity of Falke is less than that of Earth. It also appears to be much less dense than Earth organisms. Despite this, many biologists insist it shouldn't be able to support itself. Then again, not too many biologists have managed to study it very closely, so the secrets of the Earthshaker may very well be discovered in the near future. Despite its lowered activity level, it appears to be fully aware of its surroundings, and it keeps using its sonar pings to detect prey. The sole comfort for adventurers near the habitat of the Earthshakers is that puny humanoids are almost not worth the effort for an Earthshaker to eat. Almost. If you awaken this creature, be prepared to fight one of the most powerful organisms in the galaxy. Danger Level: 10+ Edited by Sapphire Flame, Oct 1 2008, 08:34 PM.
