National Exams in Years 2 and 9 will be scrapped. Too much focus is made on these exams which have no effect on anything later in life, and cause unnecessary stress in youngsters. The removal of these exams will mean that teachers can focus on education in general, rather than trying to get good results in exams. The exams in Year 6 will still take place, as these are useful in showing the quality of education provided by Primary Schools. Teacher assessments will also still take place, with these showing how much progress is made. |

We already have a bill that makes exams a choice rather than compulsory. You can choose to do Coursewrok instead. |

If you mean lower school exams like SATs I still disagree. They're a necassary part of pre-GCSE education. I just think that too much emphasis is put on them being important. If you mean exams in other areas of the school (end of year exams etc), then it's the school's choice, not the government's. |

I disagree. Exams in year 6, and especially year 2, are in no way necessary, and are probably not even very reliable, as children of that age are unlikely to perform as well as they should in exams, due to the intimidation they feel. I shall, however, remove the possibility of scrapping any secondary school exams, and change the bill to include the recommendation that schools include some form of internal exams, so children get exam practice, without the pressure that compulsory ones entail. |

If enough people share that opinion I will amend the Bill accordingly. |

uhm, it might just be me, but this bill makes no sense. It starts by saying exams will be scrapped due to the stress they cause, but then says this will leave teachers free to focus on exams in general. This makes no sense, if exams are scrapped then why would teachers focus on them? Also I don't quite get the bit in the last paragraph where it talks about "emphasis on exam practice" Whats the point in practising for an exam that will never take place, and similarly how can a practice exam that leads to nothing even be called a practice exam? By definition a practice exam has to be followed by the real thing. |

The first one was a typo by me, which strangely noone else spotted, including me. And the exam practice is to get used to exam conditions, so when students come to real exams, they know what it is like. |

Personaly I would disagree. But that may well be just because I was to ill to attend school when the SAT's and such were taking place. But overall I would probably support it if it ever got to a vote. |

Edited again, and this will be what will go to vote this evening, assuming no government bills are made in the meanwhile, as I will be unable to edit it again before then. |
