I think that it is right that people shouldn't insult other people, and that there should be some way of preventing them doing so. However, our country takes it too far, with everything (in theory) having to be totally neutral, with no bias against anything. Two other things I find really stupid are:

1. People who aren't in the group that could be insulted, complaining about something because it might insult someone, when the people it's supposed to be insulting have raised no objections.

2. Christianity being the exception to the rule. If someone even makes a small joke about Islam they are heavily criticised, whereas people who make a direct criticism of Christianity are described as 'a breath of fresh air'. How is this politically correct?

Agreed, the political correctness movement in the UK has gone too far...

In one town, the local council demanded the removal of a cross at the local burial chapel, in case it insulted those of other religions. When the other religious leaders were actually consulted, they were horrified at the idea of a religious symbol being removed in their name.

I'll just go and write "Baa Baa Black Sheep" on this handy blackboard here. Oh look there's a white board too! *Writes*

ZOMG, I'm racist!

Agrees by the way.

In schools you are no longer allowed to learn "Baa Baa Black Sheep." It has to be "Baa Baa White Sheep" so it's not picking on black children. Ridiculous!

Exactly my point... I said Black Sheep. I also said Black board (it should have been chalk board) and white board (Wipe Board).

It was my example of PC gone too far.

the very existance of political correctness is political correctness gone too far...

the stuff which people call "offensive" is far less offensive than a lot of comedy around, yet gays and transvestites (sp?) still find little britain funny not offensive...

so why is there a need for political correctness

(p.s. miniyoda08 - christianity isnt the only exception... its anything seen to be either acceptable to laugh at or anything that the majority are and therefore isnt discriminatory against a minority that is deemed to be okay to make fun of)

Political Correctness is killing our country's heritage.

On a slightly different point quotas are ridiculous. How can the government decide how many ethnic minorities have to be in certain jobs such as the police force. It should be the best person for the job. It is unfair that they turn people away just because they are a white male. Why should people of a ethnic minority get priority. It is absolutely stupid.

All it takes is for someone in court to ask for proof its offensive and the entire system collapses
