*needs better name* Car companies in Democratia are to use the profits gained by the production of cars to develop vehicles that can run on energy sources that are healthier for the environment, eg water power, solar power, electricity. All citizens will be required to have changed to one of these cars within a reasonable amount of time when petrol and diesel will be taken off the market for transport purposes. Ooo Arr. |

I'm sorry, but as the Chancellor I cannot accept this. While your intentions may be good, you will ruin the economy. Thousands of jobs will be lost, the economy will suffer a huge drop as production changes, and millions of people will struggle to pay for the change, so will be very badly affected. Also, cars with alternative fuels will struggle to cope at this stage with a total switch to using them. |

Egads! You'd destory the petrolium and car manafacturing sectors of the economy in one go! The technology suggested is still only in it's earliest stages - it would be a disaster! Plus, how will people be able to afford new cars? They can't sell their old ones because they'd be worthless! Also, the manafacturing of solar cells and batteries causes pollution! Imagine how much more pollution there will be when there is such a demand for them! I utterly oppose this bill, and advise the other members of this house to do the same. |

How will jobs be lost? The companies are still making cars, just different ones. EDIT: Fine, I'll edit it a bit... |

It would cause the companies to go bankrupt - research requires a lot of money. Also, the people in oil refineries would all be out of a job. |

Referring to Sheepling's post: Maybe, but many workers are skilled in certain areas, so will need to be retrained, and people involved with production of petrol/ diesel, and engines using those, etc. will lose their jobs. Also, car production will probably decrease over time, so less workers will be needed, leading to job cuts. |

True, but in the short term it'll trash the economy... Also, looking at your edited bill, what's the point of allowing them to continue manafacturing petrol run cars when you're going to take it off the Transport market? Remove that last bit and I'll support this bill. Otherwise, I fail to see how it is really any different. |
