People applying to receive unemployment benefits will be required to spend a certain amount of time each week doing community service, and will be encouraged to spend the rest of the time looking for work. These people will also be required to receive job advice, to help them find a job quicker. The conditions for receiving unemployment benefits will also be made tougher, to encourage more people to find work. This bill will obviously help the economy, and will also help social affairs, as people are generally happier when they are employed. |

i voted against this, for although it would be economically sound, i oppose it because of compulsory community service - always a bad thing also, theres one time of unemployment we havent talked about (and probably wont talk about) in economics - temporary unemployment... which is between being made redundant/getting sacked/resigning etc. and being capable of obtaining a new job for the temporarily unemployed to have to do community service simply because they are temporarily unemployed is wrong. |

Anyway, the compulsory community service is only for those wanting unemployment benefits, so if the temporary unemployment is only short it will have no effect. |
