Regions

West Mearor: The sibling of East Mearor. The two were split from Mearor, previously the largest country in the Ostentia Peninsula. The economy of West Mearor is higher than that of East. Straddling the peninsula, West Mearor contains many varying landscapes. From the flat, market gardens of the coasts, to the hilly interior, it is like Ostentia in miniature. The capital, Epiphany, is located ten miles down the river Ly from the spectacular Scimitar Falls, at 453m, the highest easily accessible waterfall in Ostentia, caused by the transition of the granite uplands typifying central Ostentia, to the flat clay soils of the Bay of Apaturi. The northern coast is less well developed, karst limestone makes it unsuitable for major farming, and lack of overground rivers make for few settlements. The beaches, because of this, are unrivalled in all of mainland Ostentia.

East Mearor: The sibling of West Mearor. The two were split from Mearor, previously the largest country in the Ostentia Peninsula. The economy of East isn't so great as West and is also more sparsely populated. Comprising the flat clay soils of the Bay of Apaturi to the south, the low, fertile hills of the Eastern Spine, and the volcanic soils of the East (blown from the Mt. Serenity eruption), East Mearor draws a predominantly farming economy, competing with Nashun as the country's breadbasket. A plentiful supply of water in all parts mean farming can take place almost anywhere, from the extensive hill sheep farms of the Eastern Spine, to the market gardens of the north and south coasts. The hills are rolling, and vast tracts of land are owned by the landed gentry on the Spine. The region capital is Paradigm.

Boondoxia: A massive northern region with the largest manufacturing industry in the Ostentia Peninsula. Despite this, the country is a lot poorer than its neighbours, East and West Mearor. Mostly due to a lack of state welfare. The region is highly left-wing and its capital is Apeiron. Flat, yet alkaline soils make Boondoxia entirely unsuitable for most types of farming, and hence industry has grown. Cities sprawl across the flat land, pumping smoke into the atmosphere. Two rivers snake across the plains, supported on a bed of clay several miles wide, where smallholdings may set up. The highlands of Boondoxia also boast a fledgeling wine industry, due to the ideal prevailing winds and soils.

Falahn: A tiny mountainous, landlocked region. Falahn is primarily a traditional farming region, though its current King, a figurehead, is reforming in favour of modernisation. In ancient times, Falahn was considered to be the academic and philosophical centre of the peninsular, though this drained from country in the last millenia or so. The highest and most mountainous of Ostentia's provinces, Falahn boasts Mt Elenor, the highest point on the peninsula. No point in the province is below 500m. The sheer slopes mean that very little crops are grown, indeed, most farming which takes place is livestock, cultivated in the bottom of the glacial troughs radiating out from Mt. Elenor. The relics of the past are also scattered around the high peaks; ancient monasteries, crumbling universities, a symbol of its academic past. Scholars sought refuge in the mountains to escape the warring tribes of the plains, yet since the formalisation of Ostentia into countries rather than fiefdoms, they have all but left. The area is again experiencing rural depopulation, as the many sons of farmers leave to make their fortune in the city, forgoing their farming heritage. The region capital is Salience.

Oredia: Ruled over by a figurehead King who is nonetheless popular. Oredia is the mineral source for the Ostentia Peninsular and remains one of the richer regions, being almost as economically succesful as Mearor. It's region capital is Aurora.

Valaxia: The holiday island of Ostentia. Enjoying warm ocean currents and in a favourable position with the prevailing winds, Valaxia enjoys a mild climate in winter, and a warm one in summer. Also a popular destination for foreign tourists, it draws rather a multicultural society. The primary industries on the island are tourism and plantation farming.

Fondrop: The desert region of Fondrop was once a rich area. Now its income comes almost entirely from Gold, diamond and other precious mineral reserves hidden beneath the dunes. Unfortunatly, it has no where near the amount as Oredia, and suffers for it. Many of the inner towns rely on oasises for water. Fondrop is sometimes called the Gateway of Jyna, after an ancient mythological hero from the Jayakar area, as it is the mainland's access to Ostentia.

Nashun: The flattest of all provinces, Nashun is almost entirely comprised of clay and silt. It is hence the crop farming province of Ostentia. Originally much smaller, Nashun was built up by river deltas, and canals still litter the countryside. Small market towns are scattered liberally about, yet a lack of decent roads to the rest of Ostentia makes transportation difficult, most of it has to be done by air and carried across the Bay of Apaturi, though Nashun is hoping to remedy this in the near future. Nashun has a fairly weak economy, relying almost entirely on farming to get by. Nashun is sometimes, falsely, refered to as The Hammer, in actuality, The Hammer is just the long southern coast.

Northern Isles: Perhaps the least willing province to join the Union, the Northern Isles are still a mystery to most. Relying mainly on a large fishing industry, the steep volcanic islands with marshy geography on most flat areas being suitable for very little else, the islands have a very small economy and are still very poor. Transport to the Northern Isles was, at the time of unification, by boat from West Mearor, and took several days in some weather conditions. This was remedied by the Norther Isles Transport Initiative, which resulted in the construction of an International Airport and larger dock facilities on Torness.

Region Capitals

Epiphany: The Capital of Ostentia, located in West Mearor. The elegant beauty of this city and the superior wealth of West Mearor made it the perfect candidate for Capital City when the Unification Plans were ratified. The Houses of Parliament located here are a national landmark and an excellent example of Renaissance Ostentia architecture. Exquisite water works are dotted about the city adding a clean and sophisticated feel to the area and the River Ly runs aside it, bringing wealth from the seas.

Paradigm: The Regional Capital of East Mearor is, like its twin, Epiphany, a beautiful example of a modern day city which still posseses the charm of one from an older period. Paradigm sits at the center of the Bay of Apaturi and, as such, gains much of its wealth through import and export over the seas. Despite notable locations within the city, Paradigm is not as pristine as Epiphany, mostly due to a larger farm based industry and heavy reliance on naval trading.

Apeiron: The Regional Capital of Boondoxia is less of a show-city like Epiphany. Buildings, roads and everything are all designed primarily for function above appearence, and the factories for which Boondoxia is best known can be seen in many places. Despite this, the City Centre is a wide array of visual feasts, featuring unique architecture even among all of Ostentia. Several locations have become targets of tourists, most particularly, the Monument to Unity, a massive, three-story, rotating construction of glass and metal with a number of water features to make even the Palace Walkway in Epiphany, leading to the Houses of Parliament, look tame. The Monument cost the equivilent of over 15 million Hebra.

Salience: On the surface, Falahn's Regional Capital doesn't look like much, but, in this case, looks are deceiving. The city was first built during Falahn's prime, when it was the philosophical and academic centre of the peninsula. Ruins litter the landscape, and many museums have sprouted in the city, often built around and on excavated temples.

Aurora: Once, Salience lay at the centre of Academia, now many believe it to be Aurora. A large, beautiful city located in the shadow of Mt. Zetetic that was built on the riches of Oredia's large mineral industry. It hosts Aurora University, which is widely regarded as one of the best in Ostentia.

Nectaris: The regional capital of warm Valaxia. Understandably, Nectaris is a tourist hotspot. Local venders are often in the streets of this city. If you can escape the main centre, you may see some of the ancient Valaxian architecture.

Jayakar: The first stop for many tourists seeking the ancient mysteries of Fondrop. Jayakar is one of the Seven Holy Cities of Woism, a prominent religion in the region.

Smythii: An ancient Eronam city, now the centre of a bustling farming industry. Nearby ruins provide various tourism attractions and archeological digs. The most prominent being an Eronam villa, once owned by a Centurion.

Torness: The tiny capital of the Nothern Isles isn't much more than an average sized town, by most Ostentian standards. The Northern Isles' fishing industry is based around this "city", which is the main centre of import and export for the region. It's located on Iama Island. Recently, an Internation airport and large dockyard facilities were constructed there as part of the Northern Isles Transport Initiative.

On the border of the city, and overlooking the entrance to the Bay of Apaturi is 35 metre collossus of Helion, twin of the one which stood in Parhelion, until an earthquake destroyed it a little over 1000 years ago.

Locations

Mt. Elenor: Mt. Elenor is the highest peak in all of Ostentia. It towers over all of Falahn and is a popular hiking and mountaineering location due to its unique geography and difficult terrain. It's peak lies at 4159 metres above sea level.

Mt. Prominence: Mt. Prominence is the second highest peak in Ostentia at 3862 metres above sea level. It's the northern most peak in the peninsular and is the source of two major rivers.

Mt. Serenity: A long extinct volcano and the third highest mountain in Falahn. For all of Ostentia it's the 4th highest with a peak of 3078 metres above sea level. It's dwarfed by its taller brethren, Mt. Elenor and Mt. Prominence, however, it is widely believe that it was once taller than both. Approximatly 15,000 years ago a cataclysmic volcanic event occured for the mountain, the result of which probably blew most of the mountain away in a massive landslide, causing it to shrink to its current height, as well as leaving it with a large, relatively flat peak.

Mt. Zetetic: Mt. Zetetic is the third highest peak on Ostentia and the only mountain in Oredia. The word, meaning a skeptical seeker of knowledge, was perscribed to the mountain after various renegade religeous and philosophical sects from Falahn sort another mountainous home. Despite the fact that they didn't last long, the mountain retained the name to this day. It's peak towers over Oredia at 3451 metres above sea level.

Mt. Tregetour: Mt. Tregetour is the shortest named mountain in Ostentia at only 1983 metres above sea level. Though several peaks in Falahn are indeed higher than it, these lack official names. Mt. Tregetour is considered the last mountain in the Falahnese mountain range. It crosses into Falahn, Boondoxia and East Mearor, however the actual peak lies in Boondoxia. Despite its short stature, Mt. Tregetour is the most dangerous mountain in Ostentia, with higher death rates than Mt. Serenity and Mt. Zetetic combined. It's rocky cliffs looks deceptively simple and it is host to some notoriously erratic weather. Infact, Tregetour means "The Deceiver" in the Eronam Language Ostentia used for several centuries.

The Three Sisters: Named after three sisters in ancient Valaxian mythology, Mariel, Kieta and Seatrice, who were banished to individual islands after attempting to trick the gods. Though, to be more precise, two did. The third, and youngest, Kieta, was banished not for doing something, but for not trying to stop her sisters, despite many oppurtunities. The mythological story is disputed to have originated as a fable. Other than this, the three islands are fairly unremakable.

Kieta: See The Three Sisters

Seatrice: See The Three Sisters

Bay of Apaturi:

Bay of Raktari:

Thang-Dhui Bay:

The Bay of Lemora: This primarily limestone bay shares its coast with East Mearor, Boondoxia and Nashun. Fishing is illegal in the bay and it has become a popular tourist destination for scuba-divers. It's inhabited by the rare Lemoran Knifefish, which can be seen in caves along the coast. Despite legislation in place to protect this bright yellow fish, some illegal fishing does occur as the Knifefish can fetch enormous prices from certain clients interested in sampling the gourmet dish in which it features.

The Jyna Desert: Named after an ancient mythological hero from the Jayakar area, the Jyna Desert starts along the west coast, roughly parallel to Jayakar, where there is very little rainfall due to weather patterns. It then expands slowly until just below Salacia where it expands to encompass all of southern Fondrop. The desert itself continues into Empthrinia. The Empthrinians call this the Great Desert.

Scimitar Falls: Just north of Epiphany, the River Ly cascades from a high cliff face, forming the highest waterfall in the peninsula at 453 metres. The distribution of hard and soft rock in the cliff has caused the falling water to carve out a curved shape, hence the name.

The Hammer:

The North Sea:
