http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6995032.stm The lib dems have called for a referendum not on the EU treaty, but Britain's actual membership of the EU, becoming the first pro-europe party to do so. So do you think that there will be a referendum? Which way would you vote? Why? |

I am pro-Europe but anti-EU if that makes sense. The EU is an entirely capitalist organisation, and is pretty much a cartel. We are the economic powerhouse of the world, we have more GDP than the USA! We have the most in the world! However, a simple union I am not opposed to, it's just all the economic shiz... |

The Lib Dems calling for a referendum? Deciding which way to vote is unnecessary as its the Lib Dems who will problably sweep it under the carpet/forget it in a fit of senile demetia/not get elected |

I'm not sure what Cieran is talking about, seeing as the USA beat us on both GDP per capita (by around $43000 compared to our $35000), and GDP (by around $13,000,000,000,000 to our $2,000,000,000,000) |

He means that the GBP is worth more than the USD. About twice as much to be precise. |

What he was saying meant nothing like that. Either you're wrong, or he made his point really badly. |

No, what I'm saying is, that the combined GDP of the EU is higher than that of the USA. Or at least it is according to my Geography textbook from 2003... |

Ah, OK. It sounded like you were talking about Britain as 'we', and using that as an argument against the EU. |

If I had a vote, I would definately vote in favour of membership of the EU... there just isnt any contest - nor indeed any sensible argument against it (unlike for the euro - which i am incidentally in favour of as well)... And i think HRH is getting the lib dems confused with the tories - the only one of those 3 that the lib dems are vulnerable to is the 3rd one. ten thousand fists is also clearly confusing the lib dems to other parties... labour and the tories have been busy copying one another and the lib dems for the last 10 years. meanwhile the lib dems have not been copying other parties and have been showing (at least some) initiative. |
