Aspar "invades" Nellapaland

Two days ago, the Asparian military crossed into Nellapalese territory, but few objections were raised on the international arena. Over the past year, Aspar had made it a policy of securing small areas of Nellapalese territory and bringing them under Asparian control. However, the military action that began two days ago was not a simple landgrab operation - the Asparian army advanced far into Nellapland and seized control of the city of Pollabay and the surrounding countryside. The small defence forces retreated when they saw the size of the Asparian forces, although there was an attempt to defend the city and there is rioting tonight in several districts of Pollabay. The move has sent shockwaves throughout Nellapaland - an emergency session of parliament held last night had 100% attendence of MPs, the first time this has ever happened. The Prime Minister of Nellapaland also entered talks with the commander of the rebel alliance, where a truce was announced. It would appear that the loss of Pollabay has united the various factions in Nellapalese politics behind the government, which has condemned the invasion as an "unprovoked act of hostility against the Democratic Republic of Nellapaland and her people".

The actions also provoked condemnations on the international stage. The Empthrinian Foreign Secretary described the actions as a "deeply disturbing turn of events" and urged "restraint" from all sides. The government of Eronam went further with Lord Nomerset, a government official, declaring that "these actions prove once and for all the contempt that Aspar has for regional stability". Eronam has also called for the immediate withdrawal of all Asparian troops. Aspar has defended itself however, arguing that "it is the duty of all governments to protect their people. Nellapaland is in a state of anarchy, with armed rebel gorups controlling much of the country, commiting terrible acts of violence. Every day, our people live in fear that this violence will spill over the border and engulf Aspar. We cannot allow this to happen, which is why we have taken control of Nellapalese territories near our borders. This is a security operation, not an invasion."

Our own government has not yet commented on the issue.

How can Aspar not care about regional stability? Their invasion is the only thing keeping Nellapaland stable by causing the alliance between hostile groups.
