The Aurora Herald
By royal appointment to his majesty King Edward XI of Oredia.

Ancient Map Discovered!
Historians and Archeologists at Aurora University have discovered what appears to be either an ancient map of the world of a map of the ancient world. Winston Smith reports.

The map appears to be of the Ostentian peninsula and the surrounding area, and was discovered among the archives of Skyoto Cathedral. The map was taken to Aurora University, where it was examined by historians. The Herald was able to interview one:

"Stop calling it ancient!" cried Dr Jones, professor in the History of cartography, "It is nothing of the sort! This map appears to date from the Imperial era, at the height of Oredian learning and enlightenment. It is unfortunately not very detailed, but I believe that we will be able to obtain some valuable information from it."

The Herald was lucky enough to obtain a picture of the map:

The map will shortly move to Aurora Museum, where it is expected to be exhibited.

Seperatist Leader Resigns over Funding Scandal
The leader of the Seperatist Party in the Oredian Assembly has been forced to resign following revelations that he conspired to undermine confidence in Oredian Minerals Co. by spreading false rumours of renewed financial difficulties. The embattled mining company, which had to be bailed out by the national government earlier this year, stated today that the company was not currently experiancing any new financial difficulties, and condemned the Oredian Opposition Leader for scaremongering. It is believed that the Seperatist Party leader and colleagues spread the rumours in the hope that it would undermine the economic record of the current regional government.

King expresses "concern" over Government's Stance on Nellapaland Crisis"
In a rare intervention into national politics, King Edward XI of Oredia has told journalists that he is "concerned" that the national government has not condemned the invasion of Nellapaland by Asparian forces. Shortly after, the Royalist Party in the Oredian Assembly created a motion calling upon the national government to act immediatly, but it was defeated as their coalition partners, the Democrat Party, abstained from voting. A spokesman for the Governor of Oredia declined to comment.

Letters to the Editor
Quote:

Sir,
I am writing to remind you not to use the word "Ancient" in your article about our newly discovered map.
Yours,
Dr Jones

Quote:

Sir,
Is it not disgraceful that Oredia still has a monarchy? It puts us at odds with the rest of Ostentia, and speaks of stagnation, not change. When is the Republican Party going to sort itself out and deal with the royal issue once and for all?
Yours,
Peggy Magpie

Okay...so what about this?

Nothing special? Just the old map from Democratia (this is out of character now). What's that South of Democratia? There's clearly a coastline with some islands. Where is it now?

It's definitely there, in the fuz, as that map shows, adjusted for contrast. What's that?...

I liked the mystery of searching for countries.

@ AE:

1. Thing may have changed since that map was made.

2. That map doesn't cover the entire earth, not at all. The world is a far bigger and scarier place than that I'm afraid. ;)

@Cieran: Wow... I had completely forgotten about that... it was going to be another country, the Democratia world was originally intended to be bigger... if you look at the areas surrounding Niatland and Fletland, you'll probably find similar landorms... damn, this messes things up considerably...

*tries to reconcile the situation*

EDIT: Just so you know, the blotchy bits below the "coastline" are just a result of my erratic spraypainting. They are not, nor were they ever intended to be, islands.

EDIT EDIT: I've managed to dig out the old world map. Behold, what might have been...
