Election month draws to a close

Across Ostentia tonight, people are looking forward to returning to normality following the month-long election season. The season, which began with the dissolution of parliament last month and will soon end with the general election, has seen several significant shifts in the Ostentian political landscape.

Most significant is the result of the Northern Isles regional election, which resulted in a victory for the Seperatist Party, at the expense of the F&V=P Party, which lost support after the bungled response to the storms which hit the region last year. Despite this change in regional government, it is unlikely that the seperatist party will suceed in declaring independance for the Northern Isles, as they lack an overall majority in the assembly.

In Oredia, the other region where the Seperatist Party has been active, the governing Royalist Party actually increased their share of the vote, giving them a majority for the first time in years, resulting in their former coalition partners, the Democrat Party, forming the new opposition. However, the big change in the region has been the complete collapse of the Republican Party, following internal divisions and several PR disasters. Their supporters have mostly turned to the Boo Party.

Overall, the Boo Party have done well in the regional elections, retaining control of the Boondoxian, Fahlan and West Mearor assemblies and overthrowing the F&V=P Party in East Mearor. However, it's not all been good news for the Boo Party: in Boondoxia their share of the vote actually fell and they completely failed to make inroads into the Nashun Regional Assembly, where the F&V=P Party increased its share of the vote to 62%. But the biggest disaster for the Boo Party was in Fondrop, where they went from 48% of the vote to just 7%, wiping out almost all their seats in the regional assembly, and handing control of the regional government to the F&V=P Party.

Now all that remains is for the general election to take place. The Boo Party Prime Minister, Inevitable, is seeking re-election while Miniyoda008 is his F&V=P Party challenger. DMHowe is also standing as an independant.

Whoever wins, they'll be almost guarenteed to face problems as soon as they take up office. Following the dramatic collapse of diplomatic relations with Wo last month, Ostentia has found itself increasingly isolated in regional politics. To make matters worse, Wo has captured a team of our explorers sent out to investigate the lands west of Wo, accusing them of "espionage". Closer to home, the government will also have to deal with the increasingly vocal independance movement in the Northern Isles, and the economic slump which is continuing to take its toll on the country.

Don't blame me. You're the ones who went crazy and tried to outlaw a religion.

Don't blame me, Inevitable was the one who is opposed to Woism. I'm all for religious freedoms...

I think you'll find the explorers bungled there way into the middle of some joint Wo-Exilian miltary exercises
