The government has tonight suceeded in ammending the constitution, making legal independance for the Northern Isles almost impossible. Any act of parliament allowing for the seperation of the Northern Isles from Ostentia would require the removal and replacement of article 1c of the constitution. However, the newly added article 1d states that this could only happen if the house unanimously approves such an action. Therefore, it will always be possible for the government to sabotage any such proposal for independance. The action has proved popular across Ostentia, where a new sense of national identity is making itself known. However, the move was condemned in the Northern Isles themselves, with the governor vowing to continue with plans for the referendum. The latest polls in the Northern Isles put support for independance at 45% and support for the union at 35%, leaving 20% undecided.
