Mixed Response to Government Budget

The government's new budget was implemented today, after parliament approved the proposed raise in taxation. The budget increases spending in several areas, but anger over cuts to the police force and the justice system, as well as irritation over the raise in the basic tax rate, has caused the government to lose support from voters. However, the effects of this budget have been mostly positive, despite criticism. As one commentator put it "this budget was a success - just not a popular one!".
