Economists were hailing the dawn of an economic golden age tonight as the government was able to secure a trade agreement with Gelland, which has one of the strongest economies in the world. With imports and exports expected to rise rapidly, it is believed that the economy will grow at a much faster rate than it currently does. Due to lower production costs in Ostentia, it is likely that many Gellish businesses will establish factories and manufacturing plants here. This increased economic strength is expected to cause a large increase in tax revenue.

However, the move has created losers as well as winners. Farming unions are in outcry over the treaty, which effectively guarentees that their produce will be undercut by Gellish imports. Many fear that this will hasten the decline of Ostentia's rural economy and society. The regional governor of the Northern Isles, a member of the separatist party, has condemned the treaty, claiming that it will do more harm than good to the islands. Although this has been dismissed as political rhetoric, the fact remains that the Northern Isles are the furthest region from Gelland, and are therefore likely to recieve the least benefit from this deal.
