Halfway through typing a big wiki article on the May 2008 general election, and I make a typing mistake. So I press backspace. What does IE do? It decides to go back to the previous page, losing all my work in the process...

It's what I use, and I've never had that problem. And if you press the foward button after going back, what you've typed is still there. Tested as I type this.

If you press backspace in Firefox it still goes back.

I've never seen the worth in Firefox myself.

You prefer Boo OS Explorer or whatever, don't you?

The fact is, Firefox's main plus points are in its ability to be customised. IE's main plus points lie in that if you're used to it then you can surf the web at a high operating level wherever.

And yes, it does solve the backspace problem :)

I would use firefox, but that would be letting "them" win. <_<

Firefox works fine for me. I've backspaced before and it's still there. In fact it was rather annoying when I used to use IE at school. We have Explorer mice, with forward and back buttons on either side. A little twitch and you lose all your work >_<...
