Fire fighters have put out the last of the forest fires in Nashun with the aid of the army, just as the heatwave seems to be drawing to a close. The government has been praised for sending in the military to help evacuate people and tackle the fires, even though efforts to gain parliamentary approval failed due to various quirks in parliamentary procedure. The move has also given the government an image boost, with the majority of the public now viewing the government as having strong leadership, although some have raised concerns about the use of the military in police investigations with regards to potential arson charges, with one journalist describing it as "the thin end of the wedge". Whatever the political arguments though, much of southern Nashun's woodlands have been devastated, and the environmental problems caused by the fires are expected to remain for many years to come.
