As I've said on many occasions, Communism doesn't work because it requires everyone to want it to work, which will never happen.

Unless you make them.

And just like that, the far left turns into the far right.

Communism can't be forced. That's what's wrong with China and Cuba and what was wrong with the USSR...

And because it cannot be forced, it cannot be implemented.

No. As I said previously, a gradual drift towards the left is required for it to be implemented, until everyone is communist naturally and of their own free will.

Also, it can be brought in democratically. The communist party currently runs Cyprus, and they were democratically elected...

Nice plan - shame it won't work. Are you seriously suggesting that a communist society would somehow never produce somebody who disagreed with the system?

By its very definition, yes. If there was someone who didn't then it wouldn't be...

You are reckoning without the creation of new ideas or the rediscovery of old ones. If a communist utopia was ever achieved, it could only be maintained by the abolition of thought.

Exactly, which is the problem. A utopian ideal is also one which cannot be reached, or doesn't exist. Utopia derives from "non-existant" in greek, I think. I'm not entirely sure though...

Let me just jump in there.

It means "no place" literally (so non-existent is a fairly good rendering).

What CC0 is therefore saying is that communism doesn't work in practice.

And I hate to be a downer, Lewis, but he's right - absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Well communism doesn't give absolute power. It spreads out the power between everyone. If we invest all power in one person to protect the communism (such as Stalin) then yes, it will corrupt, but if everyone is equal I fail to see how it would...

Not if making them involved Boohistory asking them nicely.

No one would refuse that.
