People of Ostentia, our country is in a stronger position than it has ever been before. The economy is at record high levels, our education system gives opportunity for all, people now have a much greater say in how transport is run and deprived inner city areas are being given a new lease of life. However, there is as always much more that can be done. This is why we in the Ostentian Democrat Party have set out an ambitious but realistic legislative programme for the next parliamentary term. If elected,

  1. We will ensure economic stability by continuing to stand by our long-term commitment of capping the BTR at 35% in the current economic climate. The massive economic growth achieved under the Alliance government has been largely due to the ODP's economic policies, with low taxes and encouragement for businesses. Contrary to the fears and suspicions of others, the free market has improved life in Ostentia greatly. To try and throw the economy in reverse gear now would be a disaster, causing recession, unemployment and misery. Whether in government or opposition, independent or coalition, the ODP will always fight to ensure that the foundations of our economy are not eroded.
  2. We will launch wide-ranging reforms of regional government. We shall aim to bring regional government elections in line with national elections, a move which will not only increase turnout but also ensure that regional governments reflect the quickly changing nature of Ostentian politics. In addition, we will legislate to make all regional governors directly elected. This will improve public trust in Ostentia's political system by giving the people a greater say in local government.
  3. We will set up a national research body to locate deposits of natural resources within Ostentia. Although the service sector has become increasingly important in Ostentia's economy, we cannot ignore the primary sector. By locating new deposits of natural resources, we will be able to develop new industries in order to strengthen Ostentia's economy. We will, of course, not search for natural resources in areas of environmental sensitivity.
  4. We will establish diplomatic channels with all countries willing to do the same. Previous governments have pursued policies of using diplomatic relations like some sort of political weapon, withdrawing them to "punish" a foreign country at odds with our own political system and views. However, this policy has completely failed: never has any country changed its position because we have refused to talk to them. We have to accept that Ostentia is not a world power and that we cannot adopt a "with us or against us" foreign policy. No, instead we should talk to all nations, as we will able to achieve far more through negotiation and persuasion than simply through sulking in a corner.
  5. And finally, we will make the anniversary of the signing of the constitution a public holiday. We should not forget that less than a year ago we were 8 countries, not one. The progress we have made since unification has been remarkable, and we should be proud to call ourselves citizens of Ostentia. With that in mind, it is only right that we should celebrate the signing of the constitution that united us all.

That is our programme for the next government. Please help us implement it by voting ODP at this coming election. Thank you.
