As I said yesterday, we are entering a new political era, and the ODP is leading the way. This is why I will, over the next few days, be producing a constitution for the ODP. In addition to reaffirming our core values, it will:

  • Make the post of leader an elected position and lay down the rules and regulations regarding leadership challenges.
  • Create a second elected post, the position of Party Chairman. The Party Chairman will have near-complete control over matters relating to the party membership, and will also serve as acting-Leader in times when the position of leader is vacant or the occupant is unable to carry out his or her duties.

These changes will allow the ODP to develop into a modern, progressive political party.

Just out of interest, who will be able to vote on the party leader? Every member of your party?

Bear in mind that this could result in your party being hijacked...

Yes, every member will be able to vote. Hijacking is a risk, but it's a risk worth taking to establish a democratic party with the abilities to change leader peacefully - I don't want the ODP to go the way of the Boo party...

Anyways, the core values section of the constitution will ensure that the party doesn't swing too far away in either direction.
