I move that the following text be removed from the Declaration of International Neutrality: THEREFORE we believe Ostentia/The House should declare neutrality in all international conflicts yet to come, regardless of past associations or political beliefs. In addition, Ostentia will have to grant the oppurtunity for formal relations with all countries encountered, again, regardless of past associations, though the country itself may choose to decline the offer. and be replaced with the following: THEREFORE Ostentia will have to attempt to enter formal relations with all countries encountered, unless the Government can persuade the House that this is not in the best interests of the country. This persuasion will take the form of a vote in the house to decide whether or not to open negotiations. |

This ammendment ignores the whole point of the original legislation. However, I will add the government vote stuff. |

The honourable member for Epiphany West Bank (or is it East Bank? One of the two) seems to forget that votes that take place in the house are public. Imagine the damage it would do to international relations if the government publicly made a motion rejecting diplomatic ties with a country only to be forced to accept diplomatic ties. Also, the reasons for rejecting ties with a country may be sensitive to national security, meaning that the government would be unable to reveal it to the house. |

If we don't have any relations with them, how will they be able to find out what goes on in our house? And I was hoping noone would notice the second issue. Motion temporarily withdrawn until improved. And Inevitable, that seems to be the general purpose of amendment motions. |

Because many decisions to establish diplomatic relations or not take place when an ambassador (plus entourage) arrives from a foreign country and stays in our capital. |

To be honest I'd be happy to settle for the bill just not being passed. |

I've just realised that this was never actually voted on, and request that the vote goes ahead. |

Ammendment motions cannot be used to alter acts of parliament. |

What happened with the carbon emissions trading scheme then? Both were legislation motions... |
