Under this bill, the Electoral Reform Acts will be repealed. In future, the Prime Minister will be elected by simple First-Past-The-Post. In the event of a tie for the post of Prime Minister, the incumbant shall remain in office as Acting Prime Minister until Parliament nominates a successor via a motion of confidence.

Let me first state that I am not happy how this is already being voted upon. It is far too early.

Also, this is being put forward by a party who doesn't support it. I feel that as leader of the party who holds this as main policy, that we should have been the ones who were left to introduce this, choose when we want to put it forward to voting and that we have not been given adequate time to debate and prove our point.

The Progressive party will not stop after the vote for arguing this motion, and we will put it forward again when we feel there is adequate backing for the motion. I will post a motion which will clarify what we want in the form of a proper bill and not just repeal the bill.

Onto the actual substance of why I find the system is not good enough.

The system which we have in place is too complicated and is not objective enough. I feel that the decisions made in politics should reflect the problems felt in particular circumstances and made according to set values. The proposal and the acceptance of the bill was made to try and promote the use of PR, which is a flawed system as it does not put the most important part of a democracy first, the people.

The system we had allowed everyone a simple 1 vote and that's you approach. Just now we've got a second house which doesn't do anything, MPs who actually exist not getting voted in (which in itself is an inconsistency) and a heavily confusing choice system.

As a person from a working class background I realise how the voter thinks. In recent elections [ooc]EU elections, but we'll say Ostentia just to keep in ic[/ooc] people I have spoken to aren't voting in the elections as they don't understand the system or what they are voting for. This is a miscarriage of democracy because it is those people who the future of the country is in. If they don't understand and so don't vote, then the system isn't being representative as it's only representing a minority who understand and another minority who don't understand and took a stab at it.

PR isn't all it's cracked up to be because it firstly is indecisive, secondly is weak and thirdly is complicated.

What I think is that we should have a system which produces a government who can function efficiently and so can serve the people properly, a system where you don't need to have taken a course in it to understand it and a system which is clear in it's decision making.

[ooc] Finally, the simulation of Ostentia seems to be getting carried away with realism. Baracao (a micronation) did the same thing, the over-complicated nature of their simulation meant that people eventually left becuase they had no idea what it all meant, new systems, as groundbreaking as they were, just died. That's the same for many micronations.

Our simulation needs to be objective. What do we need to do? produce a parliament where members are elected and non-existent members aren't. Having by-elections the people suddenly win just for purposes of the forum isn't acceptable if you want a consistent simulation. The system we have needs to reflect what's needed. And the system we have isn't what is needed. It's what some people want because it sounds good on paper.[/ooc]

You don't seem to understand what actually happens with the new system. People vote in the same way they always did, all that changed is how MPs are elected. There IS no second house. It's really not a very complicated system, aside the EC I dunno what your problem is...

2 points, which I am growing very tired of making...

1) There is no second house.

2) Seats don't matter. They are just a bit of harmless background activity, like some of the stories reported in newspapers.

Will there be options for coalitions in this?

Whoops, sorry for the delay in answering your question. No, there will be no formal mechanism for coalitions, though they might be formed naturally in the event of a tie.

On an unrelated matter, please note that this bill no longer reforms the way that the House of Commons is elected.
