I wish War-games were still around where I live... On the plus side I've started a Magic the Gathering revolution! The white paint looks just a tad thick, but I kinda like the scratched look it gives. I like it

The white paint is extremely thick and it bugs the hell outta me -.- Suggestions on how to work with this godforsaken colour would be GREATLY appreciated. Right now I'm doing 2 undercoats of grey, followed by a drybrush of white, then a solid coat of white highlights. The picture is taken really up close so from normal viewing distance it actually doesn't look as sloppy, but it is still on the thick side. |

I'm not a great painter but I never bothered layering up to white (with grey underneath and that), instead straight onto the black I just painted it on. Just do it layers and while it may take a while as long as you make sure you add water to the paint it shouldn't come out looking thick. |

I'm one of those people Warmahordes is amazing. Just finished getting together my first 25 points, but I haven't got around to painting them yet. Hasn't stopped me and my brother getting a ton of games in with them though.Anyway, on the subject at hand, she looks pretty cool. Skin's a bit darker than usual for an elf (at least, from my point of view). It looks like I'm now going to be keeping half an eye on this forum for updates, despite not playing anymore

Nice figure ![]() On the subject of white, I'd suggest using a different base coat. Most people use grey which tends to bleed and generally give a very monochrome look to a figure. Try something like ecru/khaki or wheat/buff as a base colour instead, it'll give a nicer effect. Or, do what I do, don't keep things clean and pristine. A warrior wearing armour should be grimy and dirty and possibly even flecked with blood (although not often). If you use a thin brown-green-black wash then re-highlight up to white it'll look like slightly grubby armour and should give the depth you are after. -Glod

Just finished a unit of House Shyeel Battle Mages, better known as the Mittens Squad. I adjusted my white technique. This time I used a black prime-coat, followed by a bleached bone base, ogryn flesh wash, then white on top of that. I'm still not thrilled with the results, but I might just need better quality paint. Another thing I'm unsure of is the large power nodes on the backs of their hands. I used a shadow grey base covered with gloss varnish. It looks awesome with layered green when I use it for my warpstone, but I'm not sure how I feel about it on the plain blue-grey.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Man, they look cool. Makes me want to start painting again! The white paint you have is probably too thick itself, to be honest I would use it as the base layer, then do watered down (or inks like Flesh Wash) other colours to get into the cracks. I'm not an excellent painter though XD Keep up the good work! |

Just finished my first jack, the Chimera Light Myrmydon. I've got mixed feelings about the results. I'm still wrestling with the white paint. I'm going to try the GW skull white over top of a Deneb Stone foundation for my next model. Hopefully that will thin things out a bit. I'm looking for comments (good or bad) on the weathering effects I've done. I added a few rust spots from previous battle damage, and have tried to add some overall grime to the otherwise white model. I'm curious to see what worked well and what could be done better. Thanks for the comments so far! I've got a pretty substantial order that's been shipped so I should be able to update this for you guys fairly regularly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
