@ Silver: When all else fails, try Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=micron+pens&sprefix=micron%2Caps%2C195 Or Dick Blick Art Supply: http://www.dickblick.com/products/sakura-pigma-micron-pen/ Or try your phone book for "Art Supply Stores" (in the yellow pages in the USA). @ BD: I was actually thinking that your blue highlights may be too thick still... Perhaps a VERY drybrushing of white over the highlighted area to be sure the colour is only in the recesses. And if any still shows through it should/could look more like a glow rather than the actual light.Same thing for your cloaks. I'd try adding one more drybrushing layer (VERY dry brush!) with an even lighter grey. Still, the differences between the models is stunning. The newest minis are fantastic and must look mezmerizing (and enviable) on the tabletop. I love that there are a few more colours (leather, afterburn, mud, etc) hidden away. It really makes the minis more realistic without detracting from the overall colour scheme. I have only ever used micron pens for adding shadow. I love the glowy-blueness. Looking forward to more pics! |

Thinking on what Rusty just said, could we actually see an army-wide shot? Preferably of them actually on the table-top, but I can do without that

Thinking of what Silvermane said, can there be a disco ball overhead?

Starting to run low on motivation. I've been struggling a bit with painting up the units of infantry. I don't find them as interesting as the Warjacks or solos but alas, it's a necessary evil. These models gave me a little bit of trouble because the cloth interspersed with the white. I think it helps reduce some of the thickness effect you get on the Dawnguard though. I used a blue ink on the shields that give a nice little colour accent to the minis. I'll get an armywide shot on a table next time I'm at my LGS. Unless you guys just want one somewhere in my house. It's up to you guys. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had a lot of fun with this pair. It's always fun to break things up and paint a different colour scheme than the rest of your army. Mercenaries are a perfect opportunity for this. I actually got to try out some of GW's new paints on Lady Aiyanna's cloak. I used the new Carroburg Crimson ink and the Mephiston Red basecoat as a highlight on the cloak and the armour plates. I gotta hand it to GW, I did really enjoy the reformulated paints and I'm really interested to see how much of a difference there is between the different "types" of paint. I loosely followed the studio scheme for these two so that they were different from my army, but I wasn't worried about precise color matching. Master Holt's skin and canvas are a little darker than I was hoping for. Not sure how I feel about this... Feedback on that specifically would be appreciated ![]() I also tried a new spray sealant on these two. I ran out of GW's Purity Seal, but I really wasn't happy with the results I was getting. You have to be really careful to avoid a dusting effect and it REALLY strips out the luster of metallics. It also mutes the colors overall a bit too much for my liking. I bought a new can of the Army Painter matte varnish to test out the difference. It actually came out with a little bit of a shine to it but I really liked everything else about it. It went on a little more wet so it covers better than GW and leaves the colors more intact. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Brilliant Holt in particular looks amazing. I'm sure you'll have fun with that pair, they're everywhere in the Merc lists in the local area and can be a bloody pain (up until the point when a charges into Aiyanna then Goads to kill Holt as well ). If you can get Aiyanna close enough to the opposing Warlock/Warcaster to cast Kiss, Holt alone will probably be able to do a fair bit of damage and any other ranged units you have in the area should be able to finish the job. I only survived just that kind of assassination run thanks to Deflection, which cancelled out Kiss, and a godly amount of Transfers Regardless, they look great. Hang in there on the infantry and get a hold on some more of the Vyre 'jacks as soon as possible
