i've been bemoaning my lack of nest box success so far this year, so imagine my surprise when i found this . i was just pottering about the garden when i checked an old cable TV entry box . this is what i found . i'm guessing a Wren or Blue tit because it's so small . any other guesses ? i'm just a wee bit miffed that i've only just found it and missed all the action :waiting:

What an unusual nesting place John and such a shame you didn't know it was there,I would go along with your guesses of Bluetit and Wren .

Had you seen any birds gathering nesting stuff earlier in the season John

What a place to find a nest! could be a Wren as they like to use quite a bit of moss in their nests.

What a strange place to find a nest John  how would they have got in and out when the flap was down?

hi Julie ,
the bottom right of the box is badly corroded and there's a hole about 1" by 2.5" that has been used to access the nest .
i remember Mick posted pics of a Wren nesting in an electrical isolator but it looked a bit more "roomy" than this box. it actually looks like there's a wee tunnel in the construction. it really would be a tight squeeze in there if the nest was successful .the chicks would have been on top of one another !

hi Jen ,
i'm not sure how old the nest is and although i know about clearing out the old nest , i'm reluctant after emptying my Great tit nest last year ...especially as i jumped the gun a bit and the poor wee things had to rebuild for their second clutch :bag:

Amazing that anything could nest in such a tight area for space!
