Just having a browse through more bits of the forum and found this section.

Based on my wanderings last year, I would recommend the following places for fungi spotting ....

Wisley RHS - Great for Fly Agaric around birch trees near the glasshouse, inkcaps and bonnets on the wood chip/compost heap and Battlestone hill for earthstars.
Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming- Link - winkworth arboretum
Croham Hurst Woods - Ancient semi natural woodland for magpie inkcap, fasle deathcap and amethyst deceiver Link - Croham Hurst
Banstead woods - more fungi that you can list!
Sheffield Park Gardens, East Sussex- various fungi including inkcap Link - Sheffield Park Garden
Devilsden Woods/Happy Valley SSSI - various fungi
Coulsdon Common - various fungi

The New Forest is very wet in parts at the moment, especially where we were so I got wet knees and a very wet leg trying to cross a swollen stream when I fell in. I read Marg had a fun time too falling down paths. :scream: The things we do for that elusive Fungi!

I've at last found some woods that look very promising. According to the Cotswold Fungus Group they've just found the 500th species of fungi at http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/our-woods/Pages/wood-details.aspx?wood=4215#.UHG3oxihTh-

I went there today, and through going offtrack came across quite a few fungi. I will definitely be going back there, as I didn't get to see all the woods.

I've just read your last post happyhare, as you said what we do to try and find fungi. Being on my own I had to try!! to be careful though, but I've got quite a stubborn streak and when I want to go somewhere I'm all for having a go. It was very muddy where I was too, so what with mud, twigs etc, that didn't help. It wasn't until I got back home I looked at my hands and nails properly, they were all colours from all the things that I tried to catch hold of when I felt myself slipping. It's not a good feeling when you grab a branch and it comes off in your hands when you're slipping anyway, which happened quite a lot. :scream: :giggle:
