I am being a bit cheeky because this photo was taken two years ago and will not be eligible for any challenges, etc. I am wondering if I made the right ID since I now know that some yellows are difficult to positively identify. At the time of taking the photo I thought this was a Clouded Yellow (Colias crocea). Was this wishful thinking on my part? The picture was taken locally but not in my garden. for any help that you can give on this.PS. I haven't forgotten about the butterfly species count in my garden; I just haven't had time to get on to it recently but it will be done!

ChrisOn first impressions, mainly based on my knowledge of butterflies in the field,i would agree with Colias croceus. The very dark borders on the hindwing which show through the underwing on your image are a good id point.Bergers clouded yellow and Pale clouded yellow show very little of the black hindwing border and in some cases it is almost absent. |

Thanks very much, Dave. It's not very often that we get to see both the inner and the outer wings of a butterfly!
