Pleasure Amethyst.

The males are usually duller in upper forewing colouration whilst the females have a far more noticeable orange patch where the 'eyes' are located.

Looks like it to me.

Its their other wing either has the top chopped off or is closed down so you cant see the spot.

I would say that was spot on Grayling and you have managed to capture a good angle that shows the black tips to the antennae. Great photo and sighting :clap3:

Dave, I keep taking pictures of Small Skippers in the hope that one is actually an Essex Skipper and that is the first one that I felt probably was.

It is always great to see a new species and all that snapping away of skipper species has paid off....well done. My first Essex skipper was pure luck....we had stopped off in a layby and i was having a drink outside the car when i spotted a skipper on a thistle so i wandered over and luck would have it the butterfly was showing it's black underside antennae....how lucky was that.

Didn't know where to ask a question about butterflies so I thought here would be ok.
