Pleasure.

Some can be very tricky....blue species especially and more so the southern and eastern European species. I have been lucky enough to do some extensive butterfly spotting and field work in Europe and have been extremely lucky to have identified over fifty of the eighty odd species of blue butterfly....even now though they can leave me stumped sometimes!

I am having trouble with this one. It looked quite yellow when it was flying but the underside is more cream. as in the Whites.

Hi Judy

That is a 3rd brood Small White. Sometimes later broods can look a creamy colour and the outline of the apical markings and spots on the wing are not always that obvious when their wings are closed.

:hello1: I am pretty sure that this is a Green-underside Blue (Glaucopsyche alexis) which I don't think you will find in the UK. Am I right, Dave?

Your id is spot on Chris. The underside spot configuration on the under hindwing is diagnostic.

Shame it isn't a UK species and it is classified as an exotic (escape) but believed never to have occurred naturally in a wild state at any point.

Thanks for the confirmation, Dave. :cool4: It's the first butterfly I've photographed this year and a new one for me. Sorry it can't go into the Challenge but I'll try and find others that can!

I'd be really grateful if someone could ID this butterfly for me. Those spots on the wings are confusing me, it makes me think it could be a chalkhill blue but aren't they a bit scarce? I wish I could have got a photo of the underside of the wings but it was far too flighty!
