At long last I've actually seen Waxwings, my first ever sightings of them. :yay: I'd heard that a small flock were at Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham, Glos, so I thought I'd go along there and see, thankfully I found somewhere to park. I saw a couple of chaps with their cameras, and they said that the Waxwings had just flown off, but thankfully they soon returned. There were two huge trees, and I think they're Rowan, but I've never seen so many berries before, certainly plenty for the Waxwings.

They landed in a nearby tree first of all.....very high up.

Then they started to fly over to one of the trees with berries.

Fantastic photos Marg :clap3: :encore:

That's a lot of berries ... the Waxwings should be there for quite a while with that many to get through.

:wow: Fantastic Photos Marg! They are such pretty birds  Well done on tracking them down.

You're doing well to hold on to so many berries in your area! but probably not for long as the hungry waxwing horde has arrived

Our hedges seem pretty empty already. Hawthorn is almost gone and some odd berries left they'd rather not eat given a choice. :(

:thanks1: for all of the lovely comments everyone, they're very much appreciated.

I follow the "Gloster Birder" on Twitter ( there's some fantastic photos of the Waxwings on there ) and by all accounts Waxwings are being seen in quite a few places down here now. I would imagine that the Waxwings that I saw the other day are still there, because those two trees were full of berries, and with the trees being quite big it should keep them gong there for quite a while. I never thought I'd see those birds down here, so that made it even more special. I suppose because in the main there aren't a lot of berries about that's why they've spread all over the UK. The trees that I saw them on were right outside flats.....fancy being able to watch them at close quarters all the time. Having said that a lot who kept coming out of the flats (not to see the birds, just go off somewhere) had no idea what we were all looking at, and when we told them they didn't care anyway.....oh well, such is life.
