It sounds like this new reserve you've found is going to become one of your favourites with sightings like that! :cool2:

Thanks for the lovely comments everyone.

Thanks for those links Jen. :cool3: very interesting. The Great Grey Shrike is a little bit smaller than a Blackbird, I found that out with a bit of research, but it looked a lot smaller than that to me. They've got longish tails, so I suppose that's why they're that size.

I did wonder if it could go on that list Dave, so thanks for looking. :cool3:

Paula, it's the same reserve where I saw the Wild Boar. The reserve is jointly managed by the Gloucester Wildlife Trust, and the Forestry Commission, it's called Woorgreens lake, but also includes Crabtree Hill....this is where I saw the Boar and Shrike. The Shrike around number 8 on that map, and the boar at the top in the thicker forest. Around the lake is far too boggy at this time of the year, but I'm really looking forward to next year, when I'll explore that more. I did go around that part on my first visit and almost got stuck in deep mud.....not good!! :giggle:

If you know where Speech House is, there's a car park over the road, almost opposite it and you go down there.

Thanks for the info Marg..............what a great place. I've only ever been the the Nags Head and I thought that was a wonderful reserve but then again it's a beautiful part of the country

I've been thinking I'd like to go back there again but I'll need to count my pennies after Christmas :lol2:

It's ages since I added any photos to this thread.
I found some Waxwings this morning near Asdas in Quedgeley. :woot: The weather wasn't brilliant, the light was awful and it was raining most of the time, but I was determined to see some again.
The camera had it's first christening today, but thankfully it still seems OK.....phew!! :giggle:

There were 12 of them as far as I could see. They were eating rose hips, but there weren't many left, so I reckon they'll be moving on tomorrow.

Gorgeous shots of the Waxwings, Marg. When I was on the Chat thread I didn't realise you had already posted them.

Brilliant - and the poor light gives a much softer image than bright sunshine

Thanks Eric, Ann, Jan, Dave and Julie. :)

I thought they would have been gone the following day, but by all accounts they were still around all day yesterday, having found yet more rose hips. :)
