After the Sparrowhawk has gone! Not seen a sparrowhawk for a couple of days now so normality has returned to my garden. Birds seen include Goldfinch, Magpie, Robin, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed tit, House Sparrow, Starling, Chaffinch, Dunnock, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove and Crows.

Also saw this bird amongst the House Sparrow can anyone confirm Identity please. I think its either a Female Greenfinch or maybe a Juvenile Greenfinch.

:hello1: Andy

Juvenile Greenfinch usually have quite a degree of streaking around the breast/flank area and females tend to have malar stripes and the eye stripe normally is quite indistinct. Also the stripe tends to go in a straight line just above the eye reaching the area around the base of the bill.

The eye stripe on your bird is very reminiscent of female House sparrow (The curvature can vary from bird to bird),along with the pale breast and just barely visible pale wing bar on the median coverts.

Great photos Andy :clap3:

Ummm, I do hope you don't mind my mentioning this but those mesh bags that peanuts and fat balls come in can be lethal as birds can, and often do, get their legs permanently tangled up in them. Peanuts and fat balls are much better decanted from those bags into appropriate feeders.

Great photos Andy. :clap3:

I can only echo what Gill has said about those mesh bags Andy, they can be lethal for birds.

:thankyou: Yes those nuts were for the Squirrel to keep them off the nut feeder I have also. wasn't expecting the blue tits to use it. My fat balls are Net free I buy them without the Mesh net on.

Todays trip to Attenborough threw up some great birding sightings. I saw my first ever Redwing. Also a Treecreeper. Finally a Kestrel graced us with its presence.
